Black Alloy Wheels

I must be a massive chav as i quite like black or white alloy wheels :( i painted the ones on my Subaru black and thought they looked cool, stuff what other people think

I don't get the extreme reaction to them but it is rare to get a combination of good looking black alloys and a car that they look good on. Personally I quite like them when it comes together.

I have a set for my truck my all terrain tyres are on but only because they were on a good sale and I didn't want to put steels on or spend too much on alloys which are used off-road. They look OK but style and gloss black doesn't quite work.

I think mine look alright -- even though I'm changing them later this week for 20" Velgen VF5's ..... also in black xD

Another fan of non-black wheels.
On a small number more interesting cars, I rather like white wheels.
I also quite liked the gold Clio Williams / Scooby wheels back in the day.

I think black alloys can look fine/good personally, which I guess is the point it's all just opinion :p

Got a black MX-5 with black wheels, although they could do with a refurb and given I'm becoming somewhat obsessed with orange as I get old for some reason I'm very tempted to go bright orange! They'll be a pain to keep clean though...

Also got black wheels on my red Celica, I like that too :D

I think maybe black or red cars are the only ones they really work on though... anything else silver/gunmetal or even gold in some cases looks better...

I got black alloys on my Volvo they look great in my opinion.

They are satin finish not gloss though so not shiny, I think that makes a difference.

t they also make the features of the wheels disappear.
Just this, really. In nearly all cases, it just ends up looking like a big black void in the wheel arch, and a lighter coloured wheel would look better.

Also, unless you keep on top of using tyre dressing, they end up looking grey in contrast. Looks especially bad with black wheels and bodywork.

To me a black wheel only looks good if it's "lightweight" enough ie more air, less wheel, and there's something worth looking at behind it. Brakes etc are usually naff to look at and a silver/grey wheel draws the eye away from that. A black wheel keeps the distraction down and lets you drool over the mechanical porn behind it. (pity about the balancing weights in this one though)

I have matte black wheels on my crayon GT4. It makes the PCCB and yellow calipers pop. It works. There's hardly any alloy to even see.

Certain body colours with black wheels look ok plus they hide brake dust better. :p

When I had my GR Yaris the white body with black wheels looked ok to me but each to there own.

The problem with black alloys is that they don't stand out and you can barely make out the design next to the already black tyres. I have them on my car and don't like them.

That was my point earlier - you need big sexy brakes to show off if you're running black wheels
