Black and whites

I've been trying to process a few pictures of my daughter as black and whites and came up with the following set.

I have not had much success in the past with b&w but I'm happy with these.

Its very hard to critic someones daughter/son. Those are very beautiful and I think they have been captured quite creatively.

I really like number 2 and I like the scene in 3 but I feel the subject isn't popping much in the frame.

I agree about the lack of pop in 3, I did quite a lot of work to tone the image and take out the lowlights but i guess maybe I could have tried to leave some more definition to the center of the image

Agree on the comedy caption, she grins at me constantly until I put the camera over my face and then I get this puzzled look.

While on the subject of black and whites, does anyone have any good tutorials or photoshop actions for black and white conversions?

I use trial and error to try and copy styles I've seen elsewhere but I have not found a good method to give consistent results
