Personally I'd prefer to play the original as it was made to be played. I think this has too many things added but my main gripe is petty :D "We promise we'll never charge anyone for this mod"....."Umm yeah we've changed our mind, we're now charging you"
 
I played Black Mesa when they released it pre-Xen completion and thought it was a fantastic homage to the original. Hugely authentic but with appropriate upgrades where the new engine allows. I wouldn't go back to the original any more unless you are after a true nostalgia trip.

I wasn't aware they had promised to never charge for it, so it's a shame they've had to break that if true. However, I think this is definitely worth the £15 tag they're asking for.
 
FINALLY.

I "played" Black Mesa Inbound then stopped so could play it "complete".

Should I still HATE Xen after all these years?

I hope they have gone against their own mantra and changed the **** out of it.
 
I could never defeat the final boss in the original half life. i never enjoyed the part where you got transported to the alien world but i loved the earth facility. It was such a huge, complex facility, utterly spectacular.
 
Yeah Xen looks different in Mesa, i couldn't play that part it in the original, was terrible i thought, just big space jumping about on rocky platforms, Mesa Xen looks much better, a total change.

More than Xen it was 2 levels short in the Sep 2012 launch (It was not DECEMBER) AFAIR, and since then it has been polished at least once, possibly twice (ported to newer version of engine) but I played the free version where you only had to own 1 of the HL games (I own them all), the Standalone came later.

My save games date on completion is 19/09/12.

I then went on with the two mods to play the longer/full version of two levels, "Surface Tension" and "On a Rail".


EDIT : Not sure where I got another level as well as Xen, I know I must have read it sometime on their forums.

I dont remember when i played it exactly, i thought it was before 2015. I have paid for it but that might have been after i played it in support of their efforts. (I used to map for hl mods so wanted to support it)

I dont remember there being 2 missing levels. Iim sure it ended as i was sent to Xen. Maybe it was the standalone version then.
