Hi Gabe,

You've probably seen this mod already. Just thought I'd let you know
they have a trailer out now in case you want to have a look at it.
We're all hoping they basically leave your classic alone in terms of
gameplay and level design and just improve the graphics and cinematic
scenes. It really does look fantastic so you might want to have a look
at it and consider releasing it as a supported mod on steam.

Any comments on how it looks so far or if you know if it will be
supported on steam?

Thanks for any reply :)

Looks nice.

This has been in production for how long now? I pretty must lost all hope of this ever seeing the light of day about a year ago. Still, I guess it could happen.

Fine!

I actually wouldn't mind it coming back on a personal level, because I know how it works. It just seems like such a strange game mechanic, especially to new players. I remember having no clue how to navigate those platforms in Xen, I had to give up and later read up on the jump crouch.
Check out Mr "Never played the training level" over here. :p

I wonder if Gabe was working on a remake of HL1 right now as we speak then he saw the trailer and realized it was a better remake than his.

lol.

His answer was a bit short alright ;)

I'm sure they're all busy on ep3 atm. Which reminds me I really have to go play ep1 and ep2. Maybe I'll buy hl for a dollar and play through the entire series someday. :D

EDIT: Wait.. what am I saying. I don't need to pay a dollar now! yay :)

*gasps* that's why gabe was upset! They cost him my dollar!

IIRC Valve were in full support of the mod - its good to know, most companies shut down any mods that look like they could threaten or surpass what the team themselves could produce.

There was an issue with the mod being called Black Mesa: Source as it was a breach of copyright or something. Hence why it's now called Black Mesa. It's nice that that is the biggest problem that has come about though. :)

I'll almost definitely make a £25 donation when I buy this, nobody deserves to get this game for free considering how much time and effort was put into the making of it. Slightly more than Half Life: Source anyway. :p

AMAZING... can't believe they've done this - wow. All the voice overs recorded by them? Unbelievable. Does anyone know if this is anywhere near completion?

It never once crossed my mind to try the training *slaps face*

I just thought it would be all "W moves you forward, try this now!". Oh well.

I still don't like "training rooms" though, Valve has a much more transparent and integrated method of explaining new game mechanics now.

They certainly have no issue with it. They can't devote all that time and money in a remake, not on Valve timetables anyway!

But it takes about a minute :p

And it also teaches you how to crouch jump!

Pfft, some people

well, I believe it is using the latest version, so Episode 2 standards + a bit more (Maybe)

That's what reading bits of their forums and stuff has led me to believe.

From all the screenies that I've seen Blast Pit look amazing.

Aye, you can see from the Blast Pit part of the trailer where the monster is whapping the steel rail out of shape that it's using Ep2's fancy deformable object stuff.

Yeah but I didn't know. I understand it's my own stupid fault, because training rooms almost always have nothing to teach the experienced PC FPS player, so I didn't bother. My issue is that for people like me that are too proud to enter a training room will miss this and not understand why they can't make certain jumps. When I reached Xen I just thought I had missed an item like a jetpack or something!

If these guys can do a on the fly tutorial in the same way Valve now does all their training exercises without the need for a training room, the game will be better for it imho.
