ok i had black ops for my birthday this year and have tried to run the game only to run into system lag on the single player mode.

My system is as followed

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M55PLUS-S3G
RAM: 4GB (Win7 saying 3 usable) (Dual Channel)
GFX: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
PLENTY OF HDD SPACE (so thats not an issue)

Nothing is overclocked as i dont know the best way to overclock and dont wanna do it if it is not needed.

Anyone have any ideas about what can be causing the freezes in game.

I've seen a few people in the CPU forum saying that the game is pretty much unplayable on dual core systems at times and that upgrading to a quad made a huge difference as the game is quad core optimised. I would definitely give overclocking a go to see if you can get the game playable before forking out for new hardware though :)

You're not the only one. The game is laggy for a lot of people, both in single player and multiplayer. A patch is expected to drop before the end of the week. Might be worth waiting until then.

ah good im not the only one. thought it a bit odd considering it looks like the graphics are the same as mw2.

i tried oc my machine but wouldnt know where start properly in order to get the desired result.

will wait for the patch i think and see if i can slowly save to buy the needed components for an upgrade. boy this could take a while.

I've got an i7 and it still stutters, especially at the start of a round and during the first encounter.

There's a patch due this week, so wait and see if that helps.

Yeah a large number of people are affected by stutters and degraded performance in this game. Patch this week may or may not help :( only difference I see between my quad core desktop and dual core laptop is that it takes longer to load and longer to stabalise at the start of the map on the dual core, once thats done its just as stuttery on both with exactly the same fps with the same res/settings... given that my gaming PC is a quad core at almost 4gig with GTX470 SLI and my laptop a dual core at 2.8gig with the equivalent of a desktop 9800GT for GPU you'd expect a little difference in the fps :S

I find the game is generally fine (though stuttering when an enemy comes round a corner, despite your and their ping being good, is really annoying), but stutters at the start of a round (though luckily I'm always first on the server for some reason so it's not much of a problem), and the sound still stutters at times...

So yeah, let's hope with this patch eh?

Just copied this from a post I've been making at our forums. Personally, I haven't tried all of them but they may help. However, the single biggest thing you can do on any set-up is to turn off shadows and to NOT sync every frame.

You will need to locate the config_mp.cfg file and open it in Wordpad.

Find your Steam folder > steamapps > common > callofdutyblackops > players

Change the following to:

seta cl_maxpackets "100"

seta snaps "30"

seta com_maxfps "120" (still experimenting with this one)

seta clanName "whatever ur clan is"

"seta r_multiGpu to 0 if you have one gfx card, or 1 if you have SLI/Crossfire

"seta r_multithreaded_device" to 1 if you have a multi core CPU

12/11 - Sound lag issues: Set global sound to 16bit/44khz (CD Quality)

12/11 - Play at native resolution and monitor refresh rate. EG, if your native refresh rate is 60hz, set it at that and NOT 75hz which may be available.

16/11:

Run Steam in Offline mode > Start Black Ops > End the steam.exe process > Set BO process priority to high

/r_blur_allowed - people are reporting minor frame boosts with this set to "0"

/r_distortion - people are reporting minor frame boosts with this set to "0"

/r_dof_enable - people are reporting minor frame boosts with depth of field set to "0"

/r_glow_allowed - people are reporting huge frame boosts with this set to "0"

/cg_brass - people are reporting minor frame boosts with depth of field set to "0"

/r_cachemodellighting "1" - people are reporting minor frame boosts with depth of field set to "1"

/r_cacheSmodellighting "1" - people are reporting minor frame boosts with depth of field set to "1"

13/12/2010 Colourblind? Drop down console and type /team_indicator 3 This changes colours of ally and enemy players to blue and orange respectively.

These 2 not in my config file?

Changed the rest will report if its any better :)

Thanks.

well most the time the game sits at max of 125 (can't go higher) lowest its being is 80, think the game has felt smoother with this change

The game is very bad. It lags a lot. I hate the fact you have to empty a mag into someone for them to turn around and hit you once. Total **** up treyarch. I see this as a big issue with the game which needs addressing.

Re: CPU comments. Indeed, shaders are offloaded onto the CPU (apparently and I need better terminology, I ain't a tech guru) instead of the GPU solely handling all the graphical doobblyfurkins which is supposed to be in the patch this week.

I get absolutely no lag whatsoever yet even guys with far superior machines get lag. Mind-boggling. FWIW, these are the changes I have made personally which were positive and I play with all settings totally maxed out (except shadows and vsync which are off) @ 1920 x 1080 on a Q6600 (@3.16Ghz) 4 gig Ram, HD4870 1Gb (CCC settings are selected for choose App settings, Cat AI is on, all sliders set to Quality, Triple Buffer Open GL, Quality Mipmap) sound via a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, Asus P5E

maxpackets 100
snaps 30
maxfps 0 (total uncap)
multiGpu to 0
multithreaded_device

'doobblyfurkins' is indeed the correct technical term!

:D

Ive got it running a lot better now by disabling sli. Not a great fix though tbh, hopefully the upcoming patch sorts it out.
