Black screen of doom.

I switched my TV on an hour ago and there was a just a black screen, the sound is still coming through ok and i can change channels etc but no picture.

I've had the tv over 10 years so it doesn't owe me anything but i thought i better come on here and ask if anyone knows a fix before i start worrying about how to raise funds for a replacement.

Its a Philips 42PFL7662D/05

If there's no way to fix it, what would be the cheapest i could replace it with a similar quality TV and what would you recommend. I only really use Netflix and watch a few iPlayer shows now and again so i don't need anything special, cheap and cheerful is about all my budget would allow.

A telly of that age will cost more to fix than what its worth TBH, I learned that to my cost before I started selling tellies for a living 20 years ago.

Cheers Grimely, bought that tesco one and its just the job, quality is what ya would expect for £200 but since my old TV was over 10 years old it isnt far off the quality of that at less than a fifth of the price. The best bit is that it only uses 60-70watts, my old TV used to use 80 watts in standby and several hundred watts when running. Should save me a fortune on electric.
