Just wondering if anyone has bought this, whether it includes Starforce copy protection/DRM? I was going to get it but I refuse to let Starforce anywhere near my PC (it wouldn't even run their earlier "Lock-On" title after installation).

Does the cd version need once a week check from inserting the cd ?

I have the dl version which does not need the cd check obviously.

Just asking because flaming cliffs needed the cd inserting once a week or what ever it was prob longer but still needed to check cd.

No CD check. The DVD is the exact same as the download version, just burned onto a disc with the Training videos.

That was a well known disc production error from a 3rd party publisher Evolved games I think (Lock On Gold right?) There was a product recall on that, IIRC you can send back the defective disc and get a fixed one.

I sent Lock On back to the Big Jersey Warehouse as soon as the problem occurred.

If the campaign was dynamic I might consider it as a one off but from what I understand it's scripted linear missions?

I bought the CD and it only has 5 activations.

Doesn't mention this on the cover, of course.

This makes me hopping mad, and I refuse to buy and future add-ons and expansions and whetever for this product. I've been duped!

Pirate copies seem a more and more tempting alternative. At the very least I'm going to get a (cough).exe.

Friggin' sods, when I pay that amount for software, I want to own it and not rent it.

FOR THE LOVE OF ANYTHING - DO YOU EVEN HAVE A CLUE WHAT YOU ARE WAFFLING ON ABOUT?

It is online activation, they are not kidnapping your wife and kids and burning them at the stake.

You never "OWN" any software when you buy, you are simply acquiring a license to use that piece of software so in effect, it is kind of like a long term lease :)

OK, I'm happy for that you think that this customer treatment is OK, and the question of licensing or owning is just quibbling. If you fall for that you're being brainwashed; Good one for the publishing companies, one more mug who accepts this con smilingly. The marvellous power of customer manipulation techniques.

I do not (NOT!!!) want to buy a CD or DVD and find that I have to watch the number of installations on something that I might want to play either for years or again in a few years when activation isn't possible any more.

Oh, and I wasn't talking about licensing or possessing anyway, I could'nt give a rat's arse about that. I'm talking about the imposition of 5 activations, and the hassle of losing some or several of them on harddrive failures and suchlike. I just haven't got the patience to go through that crap of e-mailing some obscure service centres in Pakistan or wherever and to have to talk my way through and then be treated as if I were being granted a great favour.

Bloody liberty for the amount of hoops you have to jump through.

And it's not as if I have a choice when I'm only notified of the activation limit after I've taken the box home and opened it. I just don't feel like being bounced between home and retailer as if I were on a freakin' rubber band.

Oh, and have a nice day Sir.

They can blame piracy for these extreme validation methods all they like, but all it does is promote piracy further.

Everything can get cracked/hacked exploited.

Ahh well, that sucks, I was waiting for the disk version because I'm sure I read somewhere that it wouldn't have the limited activations :(

Think I will just not bother with it now.

Limited activations and DRM-Starforce seem a bit much. One reviewer on Rainforest reckons it is Starforce-lite (i.e. not a root kit) and mentioned 8 activations, but even so...

I have DCS blackshark downloaded edition , some points.

Hard drive failure and replace = use an activation
Update your mobo bios = use an activation
toggle Hyper threading on / off = use an activation

In which case you'll be in disagreement with the EULA (unless you click 'I accept' of course) and it probably states you should return it for a refund.

I can't seem to see where can buy this from, can you still buy the digital download?

I wish they would take a more open approach to the game, hate starforce and they seem to have gone balls deep on the DRM side of things. Yet there are cracks out and at the end of it all they held off the pirates for a month or two if that (most likely a day or two). Then who is left with the inconvenience? The paying customer who has to spend time trying to get more activations or email tech support asking why for some reason his game keeps asking for a CDKey or disk.

But its the first in hopefully a long line of high quality sim products which once finished will be the most complete and in depth aviation simulator ever made. I hope that they see the light somewhere along the way and undo some of this copy protection, it always gets cracked sooner or later.
