Black Textures In Steam???

My mate has the orange box with a 9800pro we have 7.7 drivers but that is the highest we can go because of the propblem with the later drivers and D3D!

When he is playing all the games, some of the textures appear black, such as cups and rocks, and other various textures. Is there any way to sort it out?
 
Tried verifying the integrity of the files? Right click the game in the games browser, properties then local files blah blah.
 
Yer but still i have had a 9800pro in my time when hl2 first came out and i had no problems.

It seems to me that its definatly a software based problem.

And regarding verifying the files, surely that would mean doing all of the games? As this problem seems to be with all of the games.
 
you are probably stuck at the moment - the games in the orange box probably require updated drivers however the newest drivers are screwed for some AGP configurations - report there is no D3D device or something.

Not a lot you can do till Amd get their act together , I'm afraid.
 
Rite ok my mate had played the played portal, tf2 and hl2nearly all day on friday with no problems other than the black textures.

After playing it over the weekend it has got repeatably worse, crashing all the time, the hard drive just constantly loads and you cant get any response from any thing and then warrants a reset.

I dont see what to do as the computer has a fresh install and all the updates apart from its running on ATI 7.7 drivers due to the D3D error.

Any ideas?
 
Is anyone else suffering from this, it just crashes the computer every time?

The HDD LED stays on constant, please help?
