Im heading to an awards ceremony in the royal opera house shortly, with a dress code of 'black tie'.

I think its a pretty formal ceremony - Prince Philip will be in attendance.

I've got my shoes and my dinner suit sorted, but im not sure about a shirt or waist covering.

Do you think I should go for a cummerbund, or waistcoat or non at all?

Should i go for a plain dress shirt, or a pleated one?

A cummerbund is optional with black tie. Waistcoats can look a bit naff.

Just go with a decent dress shirt and you'll be fine :)

Ideally a dress shirt without a winged collar. Wings for white tie / royal visit, not for black tie.

Loads of people ignore that though.

IIRC only White Tie mandates a cumberbund or waistcoat. Its optional with Black Tie

Pleated shirt and you will be fine.
