Black Widow Ultra 16:9 thin bezel screen build

Thanks mate

Do you get any glare on the walls and ceiling?

I don't get glare but because of the thin bezel i have a border of light on the wall from the over projection so for anyone wanting to do something similar i would suggest not going for the thin bezel.

There is a little illumination on the ceiling due to the lens but nothing major.

Great, thanks mate. Would you say you need a thicker border then?

Here is the light cast onto the ceiling. its the lighter part of the image on the right.

Here is the over projection on the wall behind the screen, you can see where the image ends, then the border tape (8mm) and then the wall behind the screen illuminated for another 10mm or so all the way round the screen.

I would probably say 20-25mm would solve this issue but I like the look of the thin bezel when watched through the day you cannot see this only in a completely dark room.

Thanks for the pics mate. Helped a lot.

Going to order some of the aluminium composite board this week. Just ordered the AAA. Will also grab the sprayer from amazon

One thing though the tesa double sided tape. Which one should I go for? The 50mm one is around £35. Planning a 120" screen with 5cm border all the way around.

Is there also a optimum size timber I should use to support it? I.e have enough timber to leave 10cm gap all the way around at the back?

How many coats of paint you reckon is needed?

I went for mirror tape its only 8mm wide i think but its the foam type so has some give if the frame isn't completely flat.

Mine has about a 6cm gap around the back, 10cm might be better, I'd recommend painting the side of the frame as it is visible from the side's which i didn't do but wish i had.

I used 18mm x 75mm planed smooth stuff from b&q. In all honesty it doesnt need to be anything major as the sheet holds it own really its just to allow you to mount the screen more than support the aluminium.

I used about 8 coats of fine spray to get an even coverage and it dries quite quickly between coats if you do it fine enough

screen ordered today for delivery tomorrow - 160cm x 276cm to give me a 16:9 120" diag with 5cm border all the way around

and now to order the rest of the bits, some of the stuff ive been wanting to buy anyway so a good excuse to get them ordered

just need to get the steel grey 2 paint, the wood, border tape and decide what tesa tape i need to buy, how much tesa did you use on your frame mate? did you cover all the wood?

Covered all the lengths of wood with a strip in the middle. didn't use much at all. You'll see when you get it that its Very Strong holding and don't need much for a hold.

Can't see the images, might be my work blocking the site.

thanks, thing is im going for a 2.76m x 1.6m sheet of ali so am thinking of putting a couple of support timbers in the middle so will have 5 uprights altogether, you think this is overkill? should i just go for usual 3 uprights like you have?

works out to be around 10m of wood all together if using 5 uprights.

is this the tesa you used? http://www.tesa.com/consumer/powerbond/product-finder/tesa_powerbond_mirror,c.html

Yeah that's the stuff I used.

I would possibly go for the thicker 38mm stuff for yours as the weight of the dibond will be over double what mine was.

I would possibly go for 4 uprights, i think 5 is overkill.

Bought the wood yesterday. 4x 70mm x 18mm x 2400mm. Will do nicely for the frame

Parts should be arriving today!

EDIT: One more question, i have left 5cm border around the sheet, i have bought 5cm border tape from here: http://www.projector-screen-material.co.uk/products/deepblack.html

now im thinking i should have got a bigger size so i can wrap it around the edges too? do you think i will be ok with not wrapping it around the edges? i suppose work case i would do 4cm border and use 1cm to wrap

I wrapped mine around the back, it finishes the sheet nicely. I would possibly go for a smaller border and wrap round if you can.

The sheet when cut (normally by guillotine the edges aren't the best)

Thanks mate.

So build frame. Stick to back of screen. Position correctly on wall. Make a spray booth using the clear sheeting putting the sheet behind the screen whilst on wall.

Add 15% water to the sprayer (1 ltr Dulux steel grey 2 and 2x AAA 120ml mix). Do around 8 light coats.

Is that 15% of the total mix? Ie for 1.24 litres that's 186ml water ?
