Hi there,

The battery life on the 8900 aint that great, I think its because GPRS is on.

I dont want/need to use the net so how can I turn this option off?

You've got a Blackberry and you don't need the internet?

The raison d'êtra of a Blackberry is to stay connected to the net to download emails instantly they are sent.

I suspect you can turn off edge/gprs in the settings but if you turn off its connectivity then I don't see the point in having a Blackberry!

Agree with Super Tigers...without the internet or data being sent to and from your phone...whats the point of having the 8900??.

If you really want to turn off GPRS then you need to go into your mobile network options and turn off data.

But really if your suffering from horrendous battery life then id get it replaced if you can..could be a faulty handset. Other than that make sure you properly close all running apps by clicking on the BB button and choosing exit. Secondly if your using IM programs such as MSN, yahoo, AIM and even the built in BB messenger..those apps will cane your battery when you use them extensively.

OT i just got my Tmobile 8900 Curve so am currently charging it...so far im liking it a lot but i miss my Bold so have taken out the sim and put it back into my Bold...going to get it unlocked so i can use an O2 sim as they support EDGE which the 8900 also supports.

Hi there,

I got the phone for £28 as an upgrade and it was the only phone I really liked. Was asking how to turn GPRS off as I needed to save some battery as I didnt have the charger on me.

Thanks for the replies :)

On the older BBs there was an icon in the menu with an antenna on it, you could turn off the radio rather than GPRS - The battery saving would be minimal thou.

This would turn off the entire cell radio - so no calls could be made or received. It would save the battery, but the phone wouldn't be very useful as a phone.

On the Blackberry 8100, if you go into Settings > Mobile Network, there is an option to turn of data services. This will turn off GPRS but still allow calls etc.

A blackberry without internet can still be a great phone. Good battery, stable software, fantastic contacts and calender sync etc.

Ahh ok well in that case if you ever need to turn off GPRS then go into your options and then mobile network and from there you can switch off data if you wish.
