Hi there,

Blackberry newbie alert...

Got a 9700 bold today, just waiting for my phone to be transferred from o2 to vodafone. I'm wondering how easy it is to set up my personal email to go direct to my phone? My email uses its own domain (not hotmail, gmail etc) and my hosting uses cpanel?

Thanks,

Jonno.

Shouldnt be a problem...you can set up your email via your phone or you can go to the vodafone BIS portal...make sure you have BIS enabled onto your account...if you havent then you wont get push email.

Website address is :https://bis.eu.blackberry.com/html?brand=vodauk

If you want to do it through the phone, then you need to click on the BB button ie looks like a bb symbol...then scroll to the setup folder then click on email settings..enter your info and then save and exit and within a few mins or so you should get a confirmation message. Then test and see if you get emails thats set up on your device...if you dont then it might take a few mins for it to propagate through.

As i said before make sure Vodafone have set up BIS or unlimited email onto the device...if they havent then you wont be able to set any emails up until its enabled.

Personally i use the web login to set up my emails as it tends to give you more options ie filters and other stuff.

Any other questions or if you need more info then head over to the link in my sig, biggest and best place for all things BB wise.

Finally enjoy your 9700...one of the best BB devices ive used...absolutely love mine.

The most useful thing you can do when you have the Email Setup thing open is to bring up the menu (click the BlackBerry) and look for something called "Create Account" (don't know the exact wording since it's a one-time process). This gives you a login for the BIS website linked to above so you can do everything from a browser.

Since the newest version of BIS was released everything moved over to being done on the handset, and this is a way to bring the old functionality back. It doesn't prevent you from changing email settings on the phone, just gives you more flexibility.

I didn't know this!!...

Just done it now! I originally set it all up on the handset... no problems, even found my personal (business) email settings!.. Very Happy! :)

I too am new to this Blackberry lark and I simply followed the handset set-up for my email accounts.

I am interested in looking at the full BIS web login site but need to create a username/password on the handset first - is that right? If I go to it warns of needing to use the password every time I access things, what does that entail??

Sorry for the basic questions and hijacking of the thread!

I did it earlier (just before my post)...

Set up the Username and Password (this is used when you log into the website) https://bis.eu.blackberry.com/html?brand=vodauk. Once you create these your handset will then ask you to re-input the passwords for each of your emails (I have 4 on my BB)... thats it!.. you're then set up to edit your accounts online or on the handset!! :)

I think you will have to put the Username and Password into your BB aswell each time you edit an account on it, just like if you were logging in online!..

Easy Peasy! :D

(I'm pretty new to this BB lark too!.. only had mine 6 weeks!!)

Thanks for clearing that up :) Really enjoying the BB so far and am intrigued to see the differences when I log into BIS.

FYI.. I logged into my email settings on my BB today and when it asked for the password there's a 'tick box' to 'Remember me on this device' (which I ticked) and now I don't need to put the password in anymore :)

Using BIS last night was a breeze!.. its easy to 'fettle' the email settings!..
