Blackberry Playbook....

Well looks like someone has decided to port over Doom to play on the playbook...i downloaded it last night, its free of course and the controls are a bit buggy to say the least but its pretty smooth gameplay once you get your head around the controls....hopefully the dev will work on these bugs...pretty damn awesome i must say...spent a good couple of hrs playing Doom on my pb and the cheat codes still work lol

im so tempted, even thought I have the original ipad. But I also have a blackberry 9780 and i would love to use them together.... i wouldn't want to pay £399 though. Seen them on the bay for about £315

Our Blackberry rep brought one of these in today and I had the chance to spend about 30 mins with it.

Must say that I was pleasantly surprised but not blown away.

Its still far too expensive for me consider one (that includes all tablets btw) and I cant see past the fact that my netbook on W7 offers better performance, more storage, proper keyboard, superior battery life, more applications and was half the cost.

I've also read today that sales of these have bombed worldwide and RIM's profits have taken a nose dive, as well O2 UK deciding not to offer these on contract.

So not good times currently for RIM and with news such as the above I kind of wonder what the future of this device will be outside of a modding community.

Shame really as its at least as good as some of the high end Android efforts on offer.

I picked up a minor virus on my netbook the other day. It took 2 charges/all day just to run a fekin full scan. Useless, slow, POS, almost burnt your hand off, crap real world battery life, pile of poo.
It's going straight in the bin if that happens again :D

If the playbook was more complete I'd be tempted by all those £300 US imports.

The BB guys were also in work yesterday - had a play with one for 2 mins or so. I was very impressed by the device, ultra smooth, brilliant screen and really intuitive ui. A few guys were using them in meetings today, synced to their bb's and using them to make notes on agenda items - looked like a really slick experience.

Well, my work experience place has had half a dozen for a week or something.

I played around with it.. hate it... Everyone there does (This is an It company)... I spent 5 minutes figuring out how to do things.. this swipe up, down thing..

Also felt heavy.. not sure how much it weighs compared to the ipad...425g compared to 601... Still felt heavier.. weird. And hasn't this been delayed for everrrr?

Yep ive had mine for about a month or do....got one from my brother in Canada last mth...i have to say i absolutely love mine to pieces....sure its missing a few features ie native email etc but over the past few weeks the apps are getting better...the last couple of updates have made the playbook better.

The playbook has come out today, has anyone got one yet ?

Yep have had mine for about a month....32gb wifi version.

Got mine yesterday - although it has to go back as there is a portion of the touch screen that isnt working properly - bit annoyed obviously. Initial thoughts: -

Not massively impressed with the bridge - seems a little slow and bbm doesn't have support for groups yet. Really does need a native client for both consumer and corporate email.

OS is very slick and speedy - the whole card view (even if it is a rip off of webOS) to excellent - i really think this is the best multitasking you can get and much prefer the general navigation to IOS.

Not spent a great deal of time in the browser due to the aforementioned touch screen meaning its hard to type but it fly's - actually playing video content in the browser then double tapping to go full screen is great. Even heavy flash sites havnt seemed to tax it yet.

Screen is great and being 7inch really makes this thing super portable. Initially I thought that may be a little small but once you have had it in your hand for a while it really does make sense - it just feels like you would take this so many places you wouldnt an iPad.

Impressed by the video camera - not great in low light but in ok light produces some really crisp colourful video. Haven't tried video calling yet but my brothers both have one so will call hem later and report back.

App store is what it is - nothing compared to either IOS or Android. Hopefully it will get better but hope they get their skates on and sort out the Android player. Needs a stand out twitter app.

Overall deffo a bit heavier than I was expecting

Spawn - any recommended apps? Also do you know what video codecs its supports - got some lovely 1080p rips i would like to show off on this thing.

What's web browsing like on it? Is it responsive? Not really bothered about Flash so I would probably be browsing with that disabled.

Yeah very responsive - will even bust out an embedded 720p youtube video without any problems Pinch to zoom is flawless although I tend to just use the double tab.

Impressive! I just find myself generally browsing the web nowadays on my desktop so thinking of replacing it with a tablet, but I'm thinking of getting something quite portable so the Playbook does seem to fit in with that.

Shame there's no Spotify app for it yet because that is a deal breaker for me :(

Apps wise??...i really havent downloaded anything of note on my playbook...although file browser by Aftab is pretty damn good...a definite download, think its 99p or something and allows you to browse your system files etc. But im waiting for some better apps to come out, the ones i have are mostly games etc.

As for video codecs??...have a look here and it will tell you which codecs are supported...most of the major ones are supported by the looks of it

Absolutely brilliant as Simoran has said...it renders pages brilliantly and again plays embedded youtube or other videos flawlessly....even with flash on its pretty responsive.

Cool cheers. Should get my replacement Monday.

Brilliant - my replacement turned up today. The browsing on this thing really is first class, i honestly didn't think flash support would that much of a big deal for me but just hitting play on an embedded video is great.

Just need to get a nice case and stylus for this now as i intedn to use this in meetings for note taking.

Had mine a while, absolutely love it~ Yes it has flaws, but it does what I need it to do.

Bridge is great, browser is amazing, perfect for reading ebooks in portrait (one handed and landscape) perfect size for 2 handed typing.

Even my mum wants one after seeing the adverts :p.

Do you think someone who needs glasses specifically for reading will be able to get a long with it? Obviously if they are wearing said glasses.
