I know too little about phones to help my dad who has a problem with his blackberry storm so i hoping the great OcUK mobile phones forum can help.

Basicaly he owns a blackberry storm with vodafone and for some reason he can recieve texts fine sometimes and then his text reception just dies. The phone can still make calls and send texts, just not recieve them. A google search seems to indicate that this is a common problem. Some people suggest placing the sim in another phone, or doing a hard reset by removing sim and battery, but neither is a permenant solution.

Is there a way to fix the blacberry storm so the issue will never happen again? or is there no other choice but to choose another phone?

Hmmm well he could update his firmware and see if that helps...has he spoken to Vodafone??...if not he should and maybe they can get it fixed for him ie might be a faulty handset....if he has and they havent been able to help him out then i suggest he heads over to the link in my sig...www.crackberry.com. Where he might get some help and also be able to install a new firmware onto his Storm.

He has taken it to vodafone and they have shipped it off once to be checked and they said it was a software fault, yet the phone they gave back still has the problem. The contract he is on says something about being stuck with the phone unless they have to send it back 3 times to check and they cant fix it.

WEll in that case id get him to do a firmware upgrade via the link i gave you...full st of instructions are given on that website and plenty of helpful people on there.

I have a Bold and am always putting the latest firmwares on my phone and ive never had any issues doing it...

Well im at a loss...to me it seems like the phone itself has a fault so he needs to tell Vodafone to sort it out. If he already has the latest firmware then by default its the phone thats faulty and Vodafone needs to get it fixed.

Other than that im afraid i cant be of much further help...hope he gets it sorted out and next time tell him that he should have went with the Bold...the Storm was a pile of steaming dog poo when i had it...i only lasted 2 days with it before i sent it back.

Well he has taken it to vodafone once and they have sent it to be repaired but that did nothing, he is going to get them to send off again. I have no idea if they are sending back the same phone but supposidly 'fixed' or if they are sending back a new phone with the old sim/data put onto it, all i know is that what they are sending back is not working any better.

My dad doesn't use a blackberry to its full, he doesn't need all its features so when he gets a chance to change phones on his contract (which is after 3 failed attempts at the phone being fixed) I will encourage him to go for a phone other then a blackberry. When texts/phoning/emailing is all that needs doing there are tons of phones out there that will do that job nicely.

Well its the first time ive heard of that issue...obviously they arent fixing the phone or else he wouldnt be having this problem...really he should demand a new handset if possible...it just seems like its a faulty handset unless the sim card is to blame which in that case he should them to replace the sim and see how that pans out.

If he isnt using the BB to its fullest then hes probably better off with something else...the Storm isnt the best BB...that title belongs to the Bold...if he had got that then he wouldnt be having any issues...the Storm was a very buggy device when released...the new Storm from what i have been reading is much better and not as buggy but only time will tell when its released to the market.

Hi Dist,

There is a thread on Vodafone's eForum (here) which mentions this issue and while there's no actual permanent fix you can it's worth keeping on eye on this so you don't miss out on any updates.

Many thanks,

I'm having this issue on Orange and it's done it with 3 different phones, therefore I'd suggest in this case it's not a phone fault either
