I'm 23 (24 on Monday) and I drive a 65 plate, C-Class. Last year I had held my licence for 5 years, had 5 years NCB and a near to worthless pass plus certificate and I got my insurance for under £650. This was a fully comp policy, up to 20,000 (with up to half potentially business) miles, £0 voluntary, £250 compulsory, free windscreen, free breakdown, courtesy car, albeit it with a black box.
Come 30 days to renewal, the cheapest I can get quoted for is £1,200 with £500+ excesses and no real extras. However, I've been driving for another year, come close to loosing the young male charge and had another years of NCB, so theoretically it should be at least in the same ball bark with perhaps some lenience for increased insurance tax.
Now the only thing that has changed was that I got a black box for the first time, which has rated by driving as 'Bronze' on a scale of Bronze->Gold, with it stating my areas of improvement are that I sometimes accelerate too hard. Now I'm no 80 year old nan driving her 500CC micro, but compared to most yoots in german cars, I'm a very sensible driver with only occasionally giving a bit of welly but never over the top.
So does anyone know if this data is secretly being shared between insurance companies? As the % increase is just ridiculous..
