Blackmail

Right first off the biggie and this goes for everyone.
You need bloody security on everything, thats windows 10, mac os, android phones bloody wheelie bins... if its pissaboutable then it needs security.

Minimum is free stuff like windows defender which is reasonable these days and something like malwarebytes (even the free version but remember to regularly scan) - do it properly with a paid sub for MWB its not much and will make the computer much more secure.
As for patches, i read a lot on here about stopping windows updates... staying with windows 7 because you dont like being spied on (rubbish) - forget it... get onto 10 and get it patched as soon as you can. Yes updates cause issues from time to time but your leaving your ass wide open to a good kick by sitting on an ancient OS and no patches.

I will do as ASAP, thanks.

I'd be very very wary of buying Windows 10 from that particular source even when it is fulfilled by Amazon - check the churn of "just launched" sellers and user reviews - there are a lot more dubious sellers unfortunately than genuine (though there are some genuine ones) and even in some cases the USB key installer is infected with malware. Sadly something I've spent a bit of time on lately when friends/family have fallen foul of it - usually the OS won't activate after install or the activation stops working after a few weeks due to the key being blacklisted/too many activations.

many/most bank accounts have multi-factor login with an sms text msg to your phone ...so they shouldn't be able to bypass that, anyway.

it was a bona-fide microsoft image you installed ?
edit : what RRoff said.

I think so, paid £18 for the windows 10 boot usb, installation seemed legit. The key was about £3 and worked first time, ‘windows activated’ status.

This is a pretty common spam email. If it's telling you you were caught pleasuring yourself and will send to all your contacts. I get them daily with an old password and telling me they have "hacked my account". The email for my domain is a catch all and none of the "accounts" they have hacked actually exist. Nor do I have a webcam. Preying on the fact that you've probably knocked one out in front of your pc before and panic will set in.

I keep all those, I have a rather nice collection. My favourite has to be the £30k for my 'cutted ears'. :D

Good fun read some of them! :D

Not a porn one, but it's my favourite. £30k for my 'cutted ears' or £10k 'for safe my life'.

hi

Read this message carefully, since it can be the last in your life.

People are by nature envious. Given the fact of successful development of your business, people (your competitors ) paid me 30,000 British Pound for your cutted ears.

It's not the first time I've done this kind of work, but I'm already tired of these envious ******** and your life will be the last one I'll take or will not do, it's up to you.

Under normal circumstances, I would just do the work for which I was paid without going into the details, but I'm going to get away from it and go on a long-awaited vacation.

You have 2 versions for solving this situation.

Admit my proposal or decline.

You pay me 10 thousand £ for safe your life and you receive all the information about the customer with whom you apply to the police and thus you save your life and the lives of your relatives.

The second option is you ignore my proposal and turn to the cops, but by the same token you will only postpone your judgment day, even if I can not do the work, then another person will do it, not within a week and say in a month or half a year, but order for your head will be fulfilled sooner or later.

Thus, you will be afraid of every rustle, walk around looking and thinking that you are being persecuted.

If you want such a life, your choice, but if I were you, I would think very well.

Tickets to England have been taken for July 28, and you have exactly 3 days to transfer money to an anonymous account bitcoin 12Lnqqgosifdg33VcgXhym3M9TARUokrwr.

The last time I can check it 28th before flying to you.

In the event of receiving a reward, I will not come to take your life, but will also pass all the information about your customer (Let the ******** get what they deserve) and you can protect yourself, otherwise you know the consequences.

The well-being of the future life depends on your choice.

Think about your life, you family.

الْحَمْدُ للّهِ

Its hilarious, some of these emails... but they do catch people out (that should really know better) and the scammers do make money.

I see an awful low of this kind of thing at work and i get asked almost daily if its real or not, i do appreciate its better to be asked than ignored but really... some of the mails are so blatantly ******** they should go right in the bin lol..

Lol ^ thats a good one, should reply with "Come on then if you think your hard enough"

Just use a password manager like Last Pass or Google with 2FA, generating random passwords for each site. Nobody should be using the same password on even two sites.

This is your problem. You have installed a cracked version of windows that includes a key logger.

Didn’t have a computer to do that at the time.

If you're worried just buy a cheap 8GB USB stick, download the official usb image from Microsoft and do a full reinstall. You wont need to use your key again as it will be linked to your motherboard.

The cheap keys are grey keys which shouldn't really be sold and may stop working in the future but wont cause any harm as its exactly the same software.

The email is just a generic scam email from a data breach. Change your passwords and forget about it.
