Afternoon folks,

My wife keeps pestering me about going to Blackpool. I've not been in 15 years and she's never been at all. So people of Overclockers I have a few Q's for you...

1. What is there to see at Blackpool?
2. Is there anything a 3yr old child can see/do?
3. Any decent hotels(with parking) which are near to the shops/amusements?
4. Whats it like to eat there? Lunch/evening meals etc

Thanks in advance. :)

The big blue at the Pleasure Beach is decent, has parking and is right next to the park. The park now has Nickelodeon land which is going to appeal to a three year old. Dora, Sponge bob all that stuff.

In the tower there are now some Merlin attractions, with the exception of the Dungeon they would be OK for a little one.

You would like some advice about Blackpool?

My Advice is dont go!

Go to Skeggy.. Its better.. LOL :p Oh the reason i say that is because its a lot easier to park close to the amusements etc on the front in Skeggy. Its a lot harder in Blackpool without a 10-15 min walk and with a kiddie it can be a nightmare walking back if they are tired and grumpy after being told they are going home.

Hello Derbyite btw :D

Is the Pleasure Beach near the shops and amusements? Are there any hotels within walking distance to the attractions?

Thanks

the pleasure beach is the amusement park, the big blue is actually on the pleasure beach site (same owners), promenade is pretty long but not a bad choice (and the quality is good unlike many of the B&Bs etc.)

arcades all over the place

Aren't most of the amusements crappy now? Just full of fruit machines rather than decent arcade games of old.

Blackpool is a skankpool. If you wife is desperate to see the dilapidated cess pit, I recommend only a flying visit. Go in the Pleasure Beach and Tower then you're sorted. I think you can get PB wristbands from the Tesco Clubcard exchange atm for about £9 each, you need one to get in (or you can buy on the door/online).

Well ok so it's hardly Vegas but you could have a decent little 4 day family holiday for the price of one adult airfare to the us, the beach is passable on a nice enough day, hotels for every budget.

Pleasure beach is arguably the best park just behind Alton towers although at least with PB ypu have flexibility to go on only 1 or 2 of the rides rather than full park tickets, entertainment at places like the winter gardens etc decent shopping although you might like to go to the Trafford centre or something on the way back if you want more choice.

Blackpool is tacky but so is Skegness with a lot less to do, The Blackpool tower has the circus which will thrill your 3 year old , also several other attractions in the same tower complex, should wait till September when the illuminations are switched on for testing

1 - Nope
2 - Stay a home
3 - There's a dump on every street corner
4 - Maccy D's

For a nice day out in Skeggy (If there is such a thing) Get on the beach. There is a little better area that not many people know about near Northshore Golf Course. Just drive up towards the beach and there is a little car park on the right. You can walk up a little hill and there you are on the beach. There is a ice cream van there normally. Its a bit more secluded than right on the beach by the pier. When you get bored either go to Into Skeggy and park by the Pier and go to the amusements/fair or drive past butlins to Ingoldmels/fantasy island IIRC there is a kids fun land across the road from Fantasy Island.

At the end of the day a littleun will love playing on the beach and love the flashing lights and kiddies rides etc. :)

Finish it off with a trip to the chippy (Linglong or salts are good) but my sister just went last night and found a really nice chippy by the car park to beach side of the clock tower. And have a look at the lights (Not even sure if they still have them)...

Ignore the chavs and take it for what it is, a nice little day out. :)

Blackpool past through it last year, it's terrible now, rough, tacky place, was so much better when I was there 20 years ago.
Even the road layout has changed, went down a one way street the wrong way, was a two way road many years ago, at least the copper found it amusing, didn't even get a ticket.
