It’s when you tell them you can’t afford a holiday this year, but then find out it’s because you held back the holiday budget to pay for a 5090.
"If you think about it honey, this is actually better than a holiday. Using this you can take a flight wherever you want, whenever you want. You can even choose the weather."

*Fires up MSFS 2024*

Nah, it’s the other way around. It’s peacocking! Look at how successful I am with my 5090 and (laughably non-sensical) shiny Leon jacket!

It’s how I’m hoping to lure my wife back from my next door neighbour. I’m not sure it’ll work though. He has a personality :(

FTFY :p:cry::D

If you already have a wife, and then you buy a 5090 -- you will no longer have said wife. Thus the statement still holds true xD

Exactly. And if that happens you will be left with your 5090 plus the premium blowup doll, and after a few weeks you will be left howling in pain from plastic burns.

i hope the 5090 is released simultaneously with the 5080 - before trump assumes office, so as to ensure maximum supply
Nvidia made the mistake of the releasing the 4080 after the 4090 last time, it was compared to the 4090 and ended up looking very poor by comparison especially for the price.

If Nvidia launch the 5080 first then it’ll be compared to the few overpriced 4090s still hanging around.

I'm waiting for actual power requirements of the 5090 to come out, to see if my MSI A850G is enough.

If it isn't, what are the good options at 1000W/1200W+?

I'm waiting to see what the new issues are and if we still have melting connectors as they are basically the same connector again.. "updated".. The whole melting connector issue put me right off the cards last time and the lack of NVLINK.. but then again would have got one for the HTPC/living room gaming rig.. but not with the melting issues and the fire risks.

Anyways lets see what they bring to the table and what they price them at as they may find it will be an even harder sell this time round if the price and upgrades are not worth it.. But smells DLSS4 features hidden under new names and new AI stuff... Will see .. so far loosing all care in consumer GPUs as the NVLINK has been killed off and even on some of their Pro cards, looking forward to seeing what their A-series AKA Quadro's will have this time and NVLINK was not available on the 40 series A-series too..

Glad I went way overkill when I bought my AX1600i PSU a few years ago as GPU power requirements seem to be going up and up pretty regularly at the moment. Only wanted it as a replacement for my ageing AX860i as that ran 24/7 for a good 8yrs or so without issues, and it may have struggled with the 3090 at the time or just been too close to the max load for my liking when I add all the other components on top, plus I wanted the digital monitoring features again.

I use CableMods 8 pin to 12VHPWR extension leads, and they've been great for me on the 4090. So even if Nvidia or a partner decided to go with two 12VHPWR connectors, I could easily split that loads over 4x 8 pin cables if I really needed to thankfully.

Same.. I was overkill to begin with on my Superflower Leadex 1300W... but with the changing power requirements of mobos and GPUs I decided I should probably update it (it was like 6-7 years old now too, still more than fine though..)

Went for a 3.1 standard with 1500w JUST IN CASE the 5090 did need 2x12vhpwr xD https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt...1500w-modular-power-supply-pow-nzx-02738.html

It doesn’t matter what make, it was possible to purchase an in stock 4090 anytime after release. If you were limiting your options to an FE that does not count as “hard to get” across the range of 4090 options.

I didn’t get a 4090FE on release day as they sold out before the 2pm launch somehow.

But using one of those stock alerts I managed to pick one up at the first attempt the following week without any trouble at all. Think I was about 5 mins later than the alert too.

And there were always AIB 4090’s available.

Whatever the RRP ends up being for the 5090FE I’m unfortunately looking to get one as I’m building a new PC and handing down my 5950X/4090 to my son, but the pricing is ridiculous, and that’s coming from a prospective buyer. If it’s too ridiculous it could be my last GPU for quite some time.

looks like Robots is the new hype train, not generative AI anymore

Nvidia says Robotics will be a big focus for Nvidia in 2025 and going forward as the robotics industry is forecast to grow by $200 billion by 2029, and Nvidia will release specialized robotics processors to capitalise on this trend

In other news, ByteDance has placed an order with Nvidia for $7 billion of new chips to be delivered in 2025

That 5080 pricing seems silly especially when vram is less than 4090 (fact) and performance is lower (likely). How would they even scale that pricing down amongst the stack, because eventually the lower cards will be competing with other manufacturers. Like "here's the 5080 plus 50% cost for plus 20% performance" etc.

Thats how it was in the old days - remember GTX260/GTX460? They were about 20% slower than flagships for about 50% of cost.
Frankly, its much healthier situation than current, where performance between xx80 and xx90 scale almost linearly.
