If the correct answer was a free RTX 5090 "Will DLSS 4 be locked to 5th gen cards?", what would your answer be? I suspect "Yes" and you'd be going home with a 5090.

My money is on whatever this neural rendering gubbins happens to be is 100% going to be locked to the 50 series as it will require the new gibbilyfloop cores that the 40 series doesn't have.

If it's to do with vram compression I suspect it will be tied to the gddr7 speeds of the 50 series.

i doubt its regarding ram compression but rather the ability to offload primitives from the cpu instruction pipeline.. its some kind of an AI led instancing, like an AI-tessellation model

some of my old graphics card boxes are so good I find it hard to throw them away.

some would sure look good on a shelf. I guess the internal box design could be high quality though.

DLSS 4 might work but -50% performance on the 40 series, so you upgrade to a 50 series.

Maybe, but tbf to Nvidia they've been pretty good with DLSS overall and had backwards compatibility to Turing (apart from the FG ofc).
