bladeless fan

I wonder how much of the inventing was done by the 'inventor' Mr Dyson and how much of it was done by the team of engineers?

Even if it was bladeless (which it isn't), and even if it was silent (which it won't be), how in gods name does he expect it to replace aircon?

Pushing around warm air won't make you (or the environment you are in) any cooler.

Yet again, the dyson company introduces crap and call it a breakthrough.

scam like the vacuum cleaners.

the whole assembly is closer in noise pollution to that of an actual vacuum cleaner than a regular table fan. And then there's the matter of price: $300 for the 10-inch model, $330 for the 12-inch, and neither of them offer nearly as much wind as a regular fan this size -- quite a steep entry fee for the gentle breezes that emanate out of this plastic wind tunnel.

Just a massive LOL from me. That is a mighty fine pile of dog turd that Dyson have managed to create there.

So their Bladeless Fan
  • Has blades.
  • Creates more noise than a normal fan.
  • Creates less wind than a normal fan.
  • Costs stupidly more than a normal fan.

And they're proud of that?

What they've done is create something that is worse than what we had originally, costs an awful lot more and will break more often.

At least their doing the Dyson name proud.

n.

Through fairly well known principles the high speed air drops in pressure as it exits but pulls along even more air from the environment as it does so, thus generating flow which didn't pass through the fan at all.

Interesting mind you.

Use a bit of kit at work for the past 6yrs that does the same but uses compressed air rather than a fan. :)

I was thinking something like ionic breeze when this was shown. Turns out it's not nearly as quiet as that and so is barely practical at all as a table fan! Ionic breeze is not safe either btw, just thought he might have found a way to use it.

I don't get why it costs so much as all it seems to be is a bit of cleverly shaped plastic with a small but normal fan inside?

Im sure a bit of research and development went into it but i don't see how that justifys the costs, if i were them would rather sell more for less.

I had a thought though, as air is always moving around, could it be possible with the right design to make air flow in one direction with no added input energy? Sure it would be a weak flow but it could have some uses, like keeping dust down and the room slightly cooler with fresh air moved in constantly.

To be honest, I'd settle for him inventing a decent vacuum cleaner.

eh? We've had two dysons (the first lasted over 5 years and some serious abuse cleaning up from very heavy DIY - ripping a house apart and putting it bag together heavy) and they've been nothing short of flawless. We've tried alternatives before - from el cheapo £50 jobbies to borrowing a friend's rather expensive miele and for us nothing else compares.

Really? I can't recall many poorly made products of theirs. Care to elaborate? Unless you mean price but it's simply a case of you get what you pay for :)

we're making reference to the fact that there's absolutely nothing revolutionary about Apple products either, but people still pay a large premium for them due to their stylish design.

frankly, i've read your post and the post you quote about 7 times, and i still can't work out where on earth you got the idea that we were calling Apple Products poorly made? (although some of them definitely are)
