Blame the Internet

If people want to do themselves in, I doubt someone on a forum shouting "Hack it off!" is going to help them.

I think it's a valid article.

He's not saying, 'The intarweb killed my son', he's merely saying that it assisted his son, which it did.

But everyone knows ways of killing themselves, slitting the wrists lengthwise and nto across etc. I don't see how a website would make much difference. If he wanted to kill himself then he wanted to kill himself.

I wonder what sort of control you can put on "pro-suicide" websites. Perhaps the parents should get to know their kids a little better before blaming the internet.

I'm sure that there are books, videos etc out there that would contain the same kind of information.

I don't see what the problem is?

The article is legitimate in the terms that it helped his son kill himself. I'm in no doubt that he'd have probably have killed himself anyway, but such content on the internet should be banned.

The internet didn't force his child to commit suicide, but you need to ask yourself -- is there really any need for such information to be freely available?

I guess those parents don't quite grasp the concept that a lot of pro-suicide websites are hosted on servers outside of UK jurisdiction anyway...

The article said:
"That won't stop it straightaway as it will take an international effort as these sites are produced abroad.

"But at least then international bodies like the UN will come under pressure."

It's more a case of not wanting the internet to become censored than wanting such information to be available. Unfortunately the internet is becoming a censored medium, with the RIAA, MPAA, these bans and other similar things. In a few years time I can see the more intelligent computer user's all having encrypted drives to protect our privacy.

Where does it end? If someone physically hurts another person, they should be punished.

These people are obviously are ignorent about the internet. A free internet is better than one governed by governments.

Sending someone to prsion for looking at violent porn is a joke!

Putting tax payers money to good use

How much does it cost to keep a man in prison for 1 year?
£30,000?
£40,000?

Some of us are already doing that.

But we have to provide encryption keys and such to the police if they ask for it by law, the only way to get out of it is to proove that you dont have the key and that is quite difficult to do.

True, which I think it incredibly out of order and tantamount to guilty until proven innocent... which is supposed to be against everything our legal system stands for.
