For me, it'd need to be turbo, for sheer modability, and I personally prefer 4WD. So Skyline/Evo/Scooby really.

MX5, can go up to 200BHP easy, and from then to 350+ if your really crazy. Can sort the handling to make it handle up there with the best of them, even as standard its fairly incredible.

Actually, the posts about MX-5s have reminded me.

Monster Miata, anyone? For some serious neo-Cobra action. If you didn't want to use the ancient iron-block 5.0*, I'm sure the current alu-block 4.6 Modular V8 would also fit....

Would make for a decent project at any rate.

***edit***

* - which there is ****-all wrong with, really. But I know some of you do have a deep aversion to them. Mostly those who believe every word spoken on Top Gear as gospel truth....

Ford Pop, chopped, Big Block, Mickeys...

OR

V12 Trike (Jag 5.3, Supercharger). The trike would be scratch built myself, with a rather unique front end/suspension.

Never really been that fussed over the idea of fully modding a car with two exceptions.

Skyline (R33 or R34)

IS300

No idea why though

Clarkey - S15 is a superb choice and look awesome with the right kit on, still quite rare too :)

My current itch is a Honda DC5 in White, nice gains with the right mods

Probably find an old e30 and put as many M3 bits on it as possible - I would not want to ruin an original - however, from a BHP per £ spent point of view, it would have to be a Sierra / Escort Cosworth for me. :)

I would like to get hold of an HGV tractor unit & alter the gearing for speed rather than pulling weight, could be interesting (not to mention dangerous!)

What's with all the 'you can't modify that...' comments? Balls to it; you can modify ANYTHING.

E30 316i Touring, engine out of a 535i, Turbo out of a bus, two sets of Triumph 955i throttle bodies, carbon plenum, forged internals, LSD, 7x14 steels at the front, 9.5x14 steels at the rear, tow bar, stickers for the caravan club, longleat safari park, RSPB et cetera in the rear window, dog guard disguising a roll hoop, grey bumpers and patina'd original paint.

Or a Volvo 240 wagon, styled the same as above and running a very hot redblock.

Both would have the kinky side of 400bhp.

Both sound like extreme projects, but, with extreme results!
