OK, this isn't the problem that most people will immediately assume it is. This has just started happening recently.

When I come in and turn my computer on, I don't normally turn the monitor on straight away. I go away and do something else for a few minutes, then come back to the computer and switch the monitor on. Now when I do this, when I turn the monitor on, it just switches straight into standby mode. Underneath it all, the computer has booted just fine (I can press the start key and navigate the start menu blindly using the keyboard to shut down the computer again). Once I shut down the computer and start again, this time with the monitor already switched on, it works. My first thought is that either the monitor thinks that there is no video input coming through and remains in standby mode, or for some reason, the graphics card really isn't sending a signal to the monitor for some reason.

Any thoughts on this?

TIA,

Michael.

What are your specs? first thing I would recommend is uninstalling the drivers for your GPU and monitor (with driver cleaner) then reinstalling both of them, see if that works!

It's an Athlon64 X2 3800+, 3GB ram, NF4 motherboard and Radeon X800XL. I'm currently using the older Catalyst 6.1 drivers as the newer ones prevent Sim City 4 from working correctly (thanks ATI). I can certainly try reinstalling them.
