OK, this isn't the problem that most people will immediately assume it is. This has just started happening recently.
When I come in and turn my computer on, I don't normally turn the monitor on straight away. I go away and do something else for a few minutes, then come back to the computer and switch the monitor on. Now when I do this, when I turn the monitor on, it just switches straight into standby mode. Underneath it all, the computer has booted just fine (I can press the start key and navigate the start menu blindly using the keyboard to shut down the computer again). Once I shut down the computer and start again, this time with the monitor already switched on, it works. My first thought is that either the monitor thinks that there is no video input coming through and remains in standby mode, or for some reason, the graphics card really isn't sending a signal to the monitor for some reason.
Any thoughts on this?
TIA,
Michael.
