Blaring music

With the sun out again we have the not uncommon sight (or sound) of people driving around with all the windows down and the stereo on 11. This got me thinking about how people perceive such behaviour, both the drivers responsible and others around them.

Personally, although I do like to play loud music, I do it with the windows rolled up and will even turn it down a notch when in slow moving town traffic to avoid the "thump thump thump" of the bass. I do this because I like to consider myself relatively polite and considerate when driving (my other half might disagree on this however).

So a few questions...

Do you tend to drive around with the windows down and the stereo blaring and if so, do you not feel at all self-concious or even guilty about it? Even if you don't have any qualms, does it not occur that most people around you are looking on whilst thinking "what a ****"?

Whilst I can well believe that the "youth of today" don't really care about the noise they're making, what always stuns me is that they obviously think they're really cool and everyone is admiring their state-of-the art sound system (complete with rattling Saxo tailgate) when in reality most people think they're a pillock, surely?

(Cue everyone on here saying they do the same and making me feel very very old :))

My music gets turned right down through towns and in traffic. I feel a bit of an idiot if my music is really loud and everyone can hear it :(

depends on my mood and tune thats playing at the time, I have a madskillzz woofer setup but most of the time its disabled via the headunit, but once in a while I whack it on and crank it up.

Never lasts for long though the bass is so loud it makes my stomach churn!!

Given our music preference is very much personal, I don't enjoy being forced to listen to someone elses choice. Leaving your music blaring in traffic or built up areas is just ignorant.

and also makes your rear view mirror move :p

I always have my music loud and if it's hot my windows are open. I'm not bothered if they don't want to hear my music, however if it's late at night and im near some houses i'll turn it down.

EDIT: Had my music really loud, still managed to hear the Police car come from a different exit on a roundabout unlike the people in front of me...idiots..

I normally don't have my music blaring loud. Excessively loud music reduces concentration and slows down reaction times. A bit of volume on the open road is hard to beat but some people take it to the extreme. The volume shouldn't be so loud that the music is clearly audible outside the car, that's just pointless.

When I see someone drive through a town with their windows down and music flat out I think to myself "He/she is a ****". I don't think I've ever looked upon such a person and thought something positive about them.

Rollin' along main street in Spittal in midsummer in my cousin's Rover P5B, windows down and The Berzerker playing at retina-splitting volumes. Win.

For my last 3 cars I probably did. But with the rep mobile and spending an inordinate amount of time being stuck on either the A33, M4, M3, M25 or M2 (daily route) I actually now just listen to speech radio. So, no.

ROFL

I cant imagine The Berzeker being blasted out of a Rover P5B :D

On the open road I have often have windows down and music full blast.

When driving through the city centre/in roadworks I trun it down.

I must be getting old too :(

i only get to drive one in a while probably twice a week at the most unless im working away from home. so when im in the car i like to listen to the sounds and have the subs slammin. i only put the windows down if its hot other wise they are always up, no air con.
i think its ok to have loud music in ones car, but i just like music so to not sound like a boy racer i invested in a few hundred quids worth of sound deadening. does help to cut down on bass leak but if a window is open then a lot of sound escapes.

P5B with a 4.6 conversion, straight exhausts and the ability to light up the tyres in the dry in fourth gear...

...Driven at 10mph down the main street of a sleepy fishing village playing CDs from my personal collection ;)

If the rest of your collection is anything like Berzeker, that sleepy fishing village would have been well awake ;)

A lot of the time my music is up and windows down, dunno why, i just like it like that. It's extremely inconsiderate to the people I pass, but in 5 seconds I'll be gone.

I do tend to drop it down a bit in traffic though.

I'm too busy singing and dancing to wonder if people are upset about my music :o

Music up, windows down all the way

I rock out when i'm delivering, people can kiss my ass if they dont like it, sorry.

I would be more than happy to kick it if you are like the cretins that drive past our house in the evening and wake my young daughter up.

It's not big, it's not clever and you look like an arse. Still, if looking like an arse is what floats your boat, then fine, just do it away from me.

during the day if i feel like it the music is loud and the windows are down if its hot and i couldnt careless tbh, but at the night i do turn it down common sense really.
