Blind Spot

I think so. Considering he's been driving for 25 years and has never had an accident. Maybe he just can sense if it is clear to move.

Let me just add my voice to the chorus. Maybe your dad has good enough awareness that he always knows when his blindspot is clear. You don't. If you listen to him you will stack your car.

.......ask him if he's seen loads in his rear view mirror!

Seriously though, I kind of know what he means about keeping your eyes in front of you as thats where most dangers will come from, but if you're motorway driving, then unless you check your mirrors every few seconds you need to make a quick glance before changing lanes. You'd be amazed how big the blind spot can actually be. I've been on a motorway and been about to pull into the outside lane only to be saved by a quick glance to find a huge BMW right beside me that just wasnt in my mirrors!

I forgot to check once not long after i had passed on my way up to a village north of bradford (never did find it either) on some motorway.

Was in the left lane approaching something so looked in my mirror, nothing there, indicated & started to move over to find a red nissan micra at the side of me, if he was in my blind spot he probably didnt even see me indicate as my car has no side repeaters on the wings.

I discovered a few days later that you can hide a land rover discovery in my cars blind spot, i now never forget.

I normally learn forward and look in my mirror - then only give a quick glance back.

What I don't get is why some peple just sit in your blind spot on the motorway, travelling the same speed as you? why not just drop back a few yards and travel behind me?

I always check my blind spot. There have been many occasions where my mirrors been clear and I look over my shoulder to see a car sitting there, most of the time I find this when I've just pulled onto a dual carriageway and am looking to move into the overtaking lane straight away.

People that just sit in my blind spot are one of my major annoyances.

People that don't look when changing lanes are higher up on the list though. :o

if you dont have blindspot mirrors you should always turn your head to check your blindspot before you pull out. its also important to leave a safe distance between you and the car in front because in that split second that you look away the driver in front could brake hard leaving you to ram them from behind.
