Blinded by the light

Yeah I hate the lack of natural light in the office, and how it hurts to venture outside; almost makes you a recluse! I had to 'carefully amend' the lighting above my desk in order to help make a difference, its lovely now with no stupidly bright light above me.
 
Happens when I walk out of a dimly lit, Decorated and furnished pub on a very bright day which could also be down to the alcohol as well as the light intensity difference(LID[ooo new acronym{definitely putting Angus' training to good use}]) other than that I've not experience this.

Thankfully there are no women in our office. Some feminine fellas but no actual women with their stupid broken thermostats. I have run into that in the past.

Sounds like what some of my former colleagues did at my previous company. They would unscrew the fluorescent tubes in the office lighting above their desk just enough to make the light turn off, so that they weren't blinded by them all day.

A manager at my workplace has one of those SAD lights on his desk. I find it blinding in the office and his office has massive windows overlooking Portsmouth Harbour so hardly a bad thing to warrant a SAD light! I much prefer being outside and absorbing natural light and warmth from the Sun. Feels good people :)
 
I've tried to encourage natural light by opening the blinds throughout the office, but someone always has to complain of screen glare and as a result all blinds are closed thereafter. Really annoying, but probably elf n safety related!
 
If there's glare then your IT dept have bought you guys the wrong kind of monitors surely! My office looks out to the sea so lots of light reflecting in, no glare issues on matte panel screens :cool:

Our offices are ancient, in fact they date back to the world wars, as do the monitors I am sure haha.
 
I actually like the office a little darker- when the emergency light test is done and the main lights are off the lighting is perfect in the office and everyone could turn their screens down a little. I generally prefer less brightness everywhere including outside. **** you, Sun.

I've been tempted to bring my own monitors on more than one occassion, they're rubbish in here.

All you get is 2 poxy little 17" ancient dell things, it's like a PC for ants.

I'm sure most people don't notice but when you come from 3x27" monitors it's horrendous.

I've even gone as far as plotting an A1 size picture of an open window on a bright sunny day and stuck it to the wall, to no avail.
At lunch I generally go an spend a half hour sitting in my car, just to get away from the artificial lights and the computer screens in the office.

I used to have the same issue. My desk was positioned in a large open-plan office, furthest from the windows. Nothing annoyed me more than my eyes hurting temporarily when leaving the build. I also used to sit in my car for a little while for fresh air and get away from lighting/computer screens.
