After reading through the Mass Effect thread (a game I'm probably 60% or so through, but I've got a lot of side quests to do) I'm just wondering - why do people 'blitz' through games? Some games are more suited to this gameplay style than others, but Mass Effect is such a story based game, it seems to me this is equivalent to speed/skim reading a good book. Yes, you get the gist of the plot, but do you get the full enjoyment.
One of the wonderful things about Mass Effect is the story (despite being a little bit cliched - but it is sci-fi) and the voice acting and characters are so good, it makes me want to hear what they've got to say. I particularly love the interplay between squad members (especially on your ship) and I couldn't imagine rushing through the game and missing the 'meat' so to speak.
So, for those of you that do rush through games - what's the appeal? Is it finishing it before anyone else? Do you do the same with books (and, for that matter, fast forward DVDs)? Or do you just find dialogue/exposition boring?
