Question is, do you want your gold more than your repeat business? If it's a choice between paying an employee to farm for days to build up the gold, or nick it from your account, it's probably more profitable for them to nick it and take the chance you won't come back. With 10 million subscribers they probably need gold more than repeat business.

Or more likely he picked up a WoW key-logger from a dodgy ad from a website. Do we even know if the OP actually gave the gold-seller his account details.
A GM/investigator will reset it. They never know your accounts password.
Back to topic, if you buy gold you risk having the account banned. NEVER will Blizzard delete characters and not inform you via email.
If anything ever happens and you don't have an email from Blizzard then it was not Blizzard that did anything.
You have been careless somewhere. Even if you have multiple passwords etc for your accounts and good PC security all it takes is the wrong MOD from the wrong website and your information has just been passed along.
Always use trusted websites if using MODs. There is another sticky in this forum for good/trusted websites.
Never give your account details to RL friends or friends you trust in the game (this has gotten some people I knew banned!).
Never use websites you see spammed in citys! ie hack for infinte hp etc.
