I've just received an email from Blizzard thanking me for being a veteran member and offering me a free copy of World of Warcraft.

Any other people received this email?

Says to go to battle.net etc, make an account, add a game from account management etc and put this code in. No links I think and doesn't ask for password. Seems legit.

does it have any EU blizzard address? most scams just direct you to .com (us) addresses.
if it gives you the code in the email, try using that on account page but try not to follow links from the email

If it's litterally "Go to Battle.net(not following a link to get there), open an account and put in the code" then go for it.

Don't follow any links though.

I think it's more of a loyalty thing, you stayed since vanilla? Have a free WoW! Started in vanilla but unsubbed? You didn't stick with us so you don't get one.

Have they not reached saturation point yet with not many new customers buying the game?

It should be f2p, or are they waiting until everyone on the planet has their own copy?

I see people saying this all over the place but I really don't understand why the most successful MMO on the market, ever, would have to think about going F2P and throwing all those subs away?

With a quick google, the latest figures I could find are from May 2011, when WoW subscriber levels fell to a mere 11.4 million!

I know they're not all paying a monthly sub as WoW in China is paid by the hour, I believe, but who in their right mind would think F2P is the way to go with such huge subscription income?

What do you get with this free copy of WOW?
I don't see a point in this as it is free to play up to level 20 anyway unless you get free access to expansions which again will be pointless without a character with the proper level requirement.
