Look on the right hand side of the page, near the top under "Job Openings"

"Lead 3D Character Artist - Next-Gen MMO"
"Lead 3D Environment Artist - Next-Gen MMO"

They've already got WoW on the PC with a string of expansions on the way and they're raking it in, why would they be making another one for the PC? Also the fact that it states "Next gen" makes me think it's something for consoles.

Seriously doubt they'll be making a console MMO. They just don't have the RAM to pull it off well and they'll get far more sales on the PC (WoW has sold more copies on the PC than there are XBox 360's).

Consoles and MMO's just don't mix. It's like consoles and RTS's - there just isn't enough flexibility on a console to allow the mechanics of such games to really play out.

They'd lose a colossal amount of money by developing one for the consoles when the only platform they're suited to is the PC.

i absolutely agree on that,

I don't see it! Why couldn't MMO's work great on a console? The control systems would have to be refined a little, but there have been several before that have managed it. Okay they might not have been as good as WOW but not that bad.

Consoles have plenty of power for an MMO. Just imagine tho', with the cross platform stuff, Blizzard's next game could be PC and console and they could play together. That would make a lot of sense and help to make sure they stay at #1.

MMO's have been on consoles for years. i don't see what limitations either the PS3 or xbox30 would have to stop it being viable. Both can use k/b and mouse. Also the xbox 360 has that messenger pad which could be very good for an mmo.

Sony obviously thinks there is money to be made in developing MMO's for consoles. They already have the agency in development at least. Add to that ncsoft 9who know a thing or two about MMO's) are making MMO's for the PS3.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was for a next gen console game.

In order for a MMO to survive it needs a lot of depth, if it is too simple people will just get bored and move on within a couple of months. Console controllers are designed for simplicity and thus it would be a difficult task to create a good MMO for a console. When limited to a couple of buttons and a joystick the insane spamming of WoW or the perfectly timed spell casting of Guild Wars would just not be possible. Lets not even start about eve online, it just would never work on a console.

The above listed are 3 of the top (if not top 3) mmos around, it would be impossible to pull off the same gameplay on a console for them, so i imagine that would apply to all decent MMOs.

I guess something like planetside might work?

[EDIT] Of course, if they designed it for the PS3, with the ability to use a mouse + kb, this would all go out the window.

Doesn't necessarily have to be an MMO similar to the traditional PC MMO format. Could be something entirely different which would work on consoles.

An MMO needs depth to survive? The most popular MMO is WoW and it has all the depth of a puddle.

You know that, I know that, unfortunately execs at the new giant ActiBlizzard corporation will just see $$$ and go ahead with the development of a console MMO :)

Oh, and if it is a console MMO, by the time Blizzard finish it what's now next-gen will actually be last-gen ;)

They are hugely lacking in RAM to cope with a modern MMO. Pretty much all previous "MMO"'s haven't been proper ones on consoles (PSO, FFXI etc).

256MB simply doesn't cut it for a true MMO.

I wonder what the figures are for these console 'mmo's. I'd love to see anyone try and implement the legend that is Ultima online.

256MB is plenty. MMOPRG's do tend to use loads but thats because they can. The genre has wored fairly well on last gen consoles, so there is no reason why they can't be as good as on the PC. I'm not saying it would be easy, but it would certainly be possible.
