Blizzard's Real-ID system and the OcUK forums

Moderating a forum would not be hard, the proportion of people whom post on forums is miniscule compared to the number of people whom play the game. I would be surprised if the consistent posters was much more than a thousand.

Plus they likely have a reporting system whereby anyone whom sees something can bring it to the attention of mods. You would likely only need a couple of alert mods at any one time. The more they crackdown on it the easier it would become.

wouldnt work id just give the name joe bloggs allthough my email is my full name. tbh should bring back the email thing where you had to have a non noob email to sign up

WoW forums are completely different to OcUK ones. Imagine all the kids who are mad at you for not giving them that certain loot? I certainly don't want them to have my real name or my info. There are too many crazy people that play WoW so it won't work and (I hope) people will protest or simply not use the forums so that they change it and go back to character names. Or they can implement usernames and then you can link the characters you have on your account under it :) And as far as I know, if you choose to enter fake names into your account (if you want to change it after creation you also have to send in proof) it limits what you can do like transferring characters cross accounts or in some cases paying for playtime. So the people currently playing would have to buy a new account most likely and pay extra each month just to troll..

I wouldn't mind too much if OcUK had it. It's just stupid that it would get picked up by Google and might ruin things for you in the future.

I just searched for your name on Facebook... you came up as the first result.

PS. I only recognise it because your t-shirt was discussed in a thread here, at some point... I'm not a massive stalker, honest.

PPS. Yeah, I got away with that .

That's the only reason why I knew which one he is as well. You're not the only one don't worry. :D

With all the idendity theft that goes on ... and what if someone takes a dislike to you in game/forums and wants more details on you, it's just giving them ammo.
And then of course the trouble makers will just register using a false name.

Absolutely terrible decision, the only people that will suffer will be the genuine one's.

Blizzard should get a trusted team of forum mods in if they want to clean the place up.

They just want to stop people posting.... ;)

Are people forgetting it's a forum? You aren't forced to post there. This isn't a web wide law coming into effect that your real name is tagged onto anything you ever do from now on, it's just a single, lone forum, of which there are gagillions of other forums that don't.

The only people who would care about this change are the people who get kicks from spending all day trolling on there. Apart from those people nobody else is required to post there.

Unless you ever have a problem that you need to post on the forums for advice...

Or the people who want to use the forum to discuss the game? you know what the forums is ment for...

They are the people who should care about this change the troll have nothing to fear from reasonable people knowing their name, it's the reasonable people that have to fear the weirdos knowing their names.

They aren't the only forums where you can discuss World of Warcraft, plenty of others have no plans to tag your real name to your posts...

Its a big forum though that is for discussing a GAME, there is no place for your real name (especially if you were to have an uncommon one) to appear there.

The realm forums for example, are very unique to their purpose and you couldn't really set another forum up to emulate that, and there are huge amount of people on the forums there too.

Its a pretty daft thing to do by Blizzard, all they need to do is make all characters visible on the persons account, that would seriously curb the trolling.

It is also the official forums where you can get help with accounts and transfers, give suggestions, look for members for guilds etc.

Driving people away from it is just stupid.

Bus Shock!!!

Any shamans remember that? :D

I would have no problems with the real-id system if they changed it to full fore name, first 3 letters of second name, plus in game name and a list of alts. Blizzard's forums have always been a troll infested mess, they could really do with being cleaned up.
