Hey!

My local Blockbuster shut down a few months back so we have know where to rent movies/games anymore.

Ive just signed up to the Blockbuster online rental service. £9.99 a month for unlimited discs (2 at a time). Im planning on keeping a game for a month so I can complete it and just send the movies back every other night (more regularly than the games).

Anyone else doing this and think its worth it?

I would recommended Lovefilm instead. I got new release on the day, although I had them on my list. It might of changed with their acquisition.

LoveFilm was pretty good for movies when i was with them. I moved to netflix. They do games also so it could be an alternative if blockbuster doesn't have the right price / selection.

I enjoyed the service, lovefilm paid for return packaging, it came with a prepaid envelope. I'd assume blockbuster do the same.

I was in South Wales visiting my mother and on various outings noticed two Blockbusters stores still open and trading... gotta love the Welsh eh?

On another note Blockbusters are just another company that failed to realise the business model they operated was doomed with virtually everything moving over to online streaming so naturally they have taken a massive hit... Don't get me wrong I'm glad to see that they have an online presence and a few stores still operating here and there (possibly franchised?).

I think however unless they invest heavily in digital streaming to compete with Netflix and Lovefilm, something they will find very difficult, I think the writing is on the wall for them, they are just on borrowed time. That said if they where able to offer digitally streamed new releases, similarly to their store facility, ahead of Lovefilm and Netflix then they may just become a viable presence once more, couple that with their current facility of loaning physical products via their current online set up, in particular games, and I think you really would have a winner! :)

Just my opinion like....

I always get new releases either on the day, or the day after. Most recent day one rental: The Last of Us.

I'd recommend lovefilm for games, although the film service isn't as good as it once was, some new releases become available months after their release on DVD etc.

Think ile try the blockbuster service and im pretty sure I can cancel at anytime so if it gets to the point I don't like it or they're taking a while to get games etc to me ile go over to love film.

Blockbusters were offered the LoveFilm brand before it launched and they turned it down.

My 'local' one (about 3.5 miles away) is still open but the decor is still the same as when it opened 20+ years ago and I think you're right about the borrowed time, they've already been in administration once this year.

Chelmsford branch is still open. I'm still quite a traditionalist here. I quite like popping in looking around what I've missed or anything I fancy re-watching. I've found that streaming HD stuff from VM can be troublesome at times, doesn't work, buffers and the sound is often rubbish so obviously they are hacked a bit so they can e pushed through the bandwidth. I prefer to play native Blu-Rays rather than pay £5.99 for a film that's doesn't sound ot look like HD. You can get some good deals.. 4 blu-rays for a tenner i think..

At the moment I think its a matter of personal preference but I sort of prefer Netflix over Lovefilm, not used the other two.... but Netflix seems to have the better selection, still think they are woefully inadequate in terms of new releases etc.

Think what ile end up cancelling the trial a day or two before it ends then just pay for netflix and buy my games second hand.

I feel to rushed to play a game through blockbuster so I get my moneys worth. Also trying to get it so they send me one game and one film then when I send the film back then send me a film too (obviously ile need more time to complete a game than watch a film).

Remind me why you don't want to go with Lovefilm? They do exactly what you require

I just gave up on Blockbuster after a year, the service got worse and worse, slow returns and less new releases each week. Saying that Lovefilm doesn't seem to be as good as it was.
