So I've sort of got into blogging, although I've not done anything yet, it came as part of my university assignment.

Perhaps I'm thinking the wrong way, but I just feel that if I post anything, unless I'm an absolute expert in the matter I'm just going to get slated by people and people saying "you don't know what you're on about" and "you suck" etc...

I found an interesting video article that I watched about gaming, and thought it'd be a good subject for my first blog post, as I have opinions on the matter and I can back up things I say when I need to, but I don't consider myself an expert...

I think of blogging as a way I can use my time more wisely, if I find anything interesting and have an opinion, then I can voice it and share it on a blog.

Am I just being a wuss? Am I thinking of blogging the wrong way?

I tend to think a web log ('blog') as an online diary, where people can read it, and if you're a follower, you'll get notified via email of new diary entries?

P.S. I believe that 'microblogging' is the same, but a 1-liner only per diary entry. Like Facebook status lines.

As some one who has three blogs (one getting successful) I can say this; just type what you feel like. There will always be people out there that will agree with you and want to follow your blog. I've never been slated, either on my nerd blog nor my girly one (my third one I just started) and I have never really been afraid of people slating me. If they don't like my opinions they can go away, and if I did get any negative comments, I would just delete them and ignore them! I've heard enough negative things in my time said to my face, losers behind their keyboards don't bother me

To be honest, anything that gets people writing is a good thing. Just write about what you want to write - if you need to clarify factual points then the internet is your friend! I keep meaning to start a blog to store all my online articles on, but I want to list them under their own titles and Blogspot only allows you to have dates as headings (I think) - what sites are you lot using?

My blog is just going to be a general technology blog.

I've got a few articles I'm planning on writing and it's a mixed bunch:

GTA Five, Certificate Authorities (the recent security breaches), StumbleUpon (because I like it), and talking about games making us smarter (inspired by an article on TED).

Currently writing the one on games making us smarter, I'm just talking about the basic skills that they improve, such as hand-eye coordination and reaction times such as the well known games like UT series, CSS etc.., then onto those games that really can make us smarter like RPG and MMOORPG etc..

By no means am I an expert but I'm expressing my thoughts, but I think the main difficulty may be the SEO and formatting the blog post which is part of my assignment anyway.

I'm going to set up another blog, that I'm less bothered and less stressing about, that's just going to be about my cycling hobby, and basically any club runs I do, or eventful rides I'll post about them.

I have blogged a few times and really enjoyed it, my wife calls them my "brain farts" most of the stuff I talk about are either personal experiences or my beliefs in certain subjects.

You have to remember that the blogs can be about any subject you like and any thoughts you want, it's not like posting on a forum, you can delete all the trolls and grammar police.

No way, its girly and not for men :p

That was actually quite good, I chuckled :D

I think you're taking it a bit too seriously, until your blog becomes popular you won't get enough traffic to get slagged off and even then you can just turn off the comments anyway.

I have a blog and to make sure I actually post regularly, I'm currently doing it once a day as a little project for the year.

As people have said before in this thread, it's just a little diary of general happenings in my life, thoughts and opinions. Sometimes I'll do little reviews or point out interesting stuff I've found on it, but it's nothing serious.

My advice would be this: if you're going to write about a particular subject, make sure you just write what you know about it and don't try to trick people into thinking you know more than you do. As long as you're honest and write in an interesting or humorous way, people are very forgiving. Or at least if you are going to write something in-depth, make sure you do your research first.

As long as you aren't plain lying, you'll find an audience that appreciates what you write.

You'll always get someone who doesn't agree with you or is just really pedantic and points out something you've said that's incorrect, but they're a minority. Although sometimes they can be handy in pointing out spelling or factual mistakes so that you can correct them :p

I've been doing mine for 92 days so far, usually get between 20 and 40 views a day, although most of them are from friends on facebook so it's hardly popular yet haha.

Depends how 'serious' you're going to be about it.

Anyone with a long memory may remember me starting out my own little thing around three years ago. It never really got going, but it taught me a few useful lesons for later. If you're going to do the same, then don't worry about it too much.

If you are doing it properly, then you'll want to look at it slightly differently.

I've finally done a single blog post, one blog post, takes some time, I'll just hope it all goes smoothly and try not to stress out when I notice not that many hits :p

I had to make a blog as well for my University assignment a year ago with a group, started all serious and when the assignment was done we started posted random stupid stuff which doesn't really make sense and now it has nearly up to 14,000 views.
