Behind you... Naked!
I got a game today. FUEL.

I could not for the life of me remember my Windows Live Login that I use for Dawn of War etc, so I played it or a while without using Live and I was quite hooked... Game played great and I was having a good laugh with it, and I got quite far in the career ut I went to play it again, and sod me, the saved games were not saved of course!

So, I reset my password and go about logging in, but this pile of junk Live rubbish, would not let me login without an update, so I do the update, wait a while for that and the game to exit, do the update and then reload the game only to log in and be told that Windows Live needs an update... Bugger me, I let it do this 4 times but I got fed up, its now gone past half an hour to me wantign to play it and I cannot be bothered anymore. I shutdown and restart only to then re-try it a further 3 times and finally... FINALLY... I manage to get to play the game.

Sod me, the display is garbled and corrupt now, its totally unplayable.

Right, so update the GFX driver and any other unecessary junk and its still no good.

So, bugger it. Enough is enough.

Sorry all I dont need help, I just wanted to vent some frustration.

I avoid games with Windows live.

Reason I've not played Metro on PC yet.

I'd buy them on console if it meant avoiding Windows live, I don't like shooters on consoles though :p

wouldnt be nearly as bad if the stupid update system worked correctly, I update my client manually whenever I want to play a live game but it is a hassle, steamworks ***

I wish devs would release a patch that allow the game to function without Windows Live *I'm looking at you Rockstar*

Actually I am sort of enjoying the game.
Im not really much for racing games. I have a very irritating knack of being bloody good at them, but they just dont appeal to me. Need For Speed Underground and Underground 2 are the exception to that rule and maybe Most Wanted to a point, but even though I have the entire collection, they are all bloody awful and I dont like playing them, but as I said I have a knack at just being good at them.

I only got this game because my kids have PURE on their xboxes and although I have not played it myself, when I saw it for sale, I grabbed it... It cost me a penny, yup a penny. I had a look around and I saw this one too at a penny among others, and P&P made up for it mind you but I got them just to make my order up to a tenner and I got 4 games in all... Pure still hasnt turned up mind you.

But the thing is, that I am actually enjoying this one, so even though you say its an awful game, I dont really care much for many others, so Im finding it not too bad.

As for the Live problems, yes, I use Windows Live with WarHammer Dawn of War 2 and Chaos rising... I think I have another game too, but its not installed so I dont know or care for it... I once was completely unable to play a game for a whole 3 days and that I find utterly ridiculous, but then again I have had similar issues with steam too, lets not let them completely off the hook.

These things are really pains in the butt and nothing more.

Oh sure, you have the bonuses such as updates, and... Well you get updates, but nothing else.

Its certainly not for piracy protection because even though my games are all legit and honesatly bought and paid for, absolutely every single one of them have a nocd crack on, and thats because I rip the disk as an ISO and then store the ISO on my server and store the Disks nicely away to keep in perfect condition... Any serials are stored on text files. I dare say many users do the same and when some games dont give you much change from a 50, you are too dam right that I crack them... Would the games makers supply me with a a new disk for free if I was to lose mine? Would they hell.

So, I dont need or want any form of scheme like this, I dont want Steam and I certainly dont want this Windows live rubbish.

Doesn't metro just use steam? Pretty sure it does...

^ Yes. Metro 2033 is a games for Windows and Steamworks game, not a games for windows "live" game which I suspect is what Tummy's getting it mixed up with. Easy to confuse the two though I guess. If it's a "live" title then it indicates the game will include Windows online features and achievements, basically all the extra DRM that most people loath about GFWL.

Windows live encrypted my saves for Batman:AA so I couldn't transfer them between rebuilds and for that it will never be forgiven. I only hope it dies soon.

pretty much dont buy games with gfwl anymore since i had a dirt 2 issue when first brought it. microsoft wouldnt help me and steam basically just said your stuffed :( . pointless software that just annoys and is over the hill.

I've had more than my fair share of problems with GFWL. Latest problem was not being able to log in because microsoft decided to change the name of the software to windows marketplace. I couldn't log in until i accepted their new TOS. The link to this new TOS didn't work so after some messing about for too long on google searches, i found that the entire GFWL network was down momentarily so i couldn't log into the website version or the software version.

It also won't update a game unless the game is running, so that 10 min blast that you wanted takes 30 mins to update. POS

Well there were one or two people on here that would religiously in each and every GFWL thread spout nonsense about how it was the user's fault 90% of the time, their antivirus was blocking it, they didn't have the correct ports open etc etc.

But I think even they've given up at this stage :)

I've only ever bought one game with GFWL - GTA4. And I detest it. I find it disgusting that they force me to connect to the Internet to play a SINGLE PLAYER GAME. In fact I got so sick of it that I only played it for a few weeks and have never done so again since.

You can create an offline account within GFWL, so you don't need an internet connection. You can still save the game progress with an offline account.

GFWL is so clearly hated, not a good word about it in the thread, you'd hope somebody at microsoft would take a look and come to the conclusion that it needs fixing.

All it does at the moment is make you think again about buying a game that you would otherwise purchase, that can't be the desired result.

My opinion - hate it, mostly because it tells me to do things with my XBOX if I have a problem, well there's a problem right there, I don't have an XBOX.

I did exactly the same thing a couple of days ago on Fuel, it's so stupid.

A couple of games have workarounds so you can avoid the Windows Live login. If I'm ever bothered by it again I'll check to see if there's a crack that'll bypass it.
