well... i was out on my bike today enjoying the weather and had a blow out on the way home, luckily i was only doing 40mph but it was a bloody scary experience. it was actually a balancing weight of some kind that went into my rear tire it also ripped my mudguard off.

was just wondering if anyone on here has had a blow out?
and how common are they on motorbikes? i dread to think what the out come would have been if i was on a dual carriage-way or motorway.

got a good ear bashing off the other half when i got home too lol saying how she's never wanted to me to have a bike and how she hates always being worried when i'm out on it. and although this wasn't exactly serious, it has been a bit of a reality check.

Had my car tyre shredded by something metallic on the motorway, not a problem as I was on the inside lane. In a car you've still got three other wheels keeping you in line, on a bike it must be a different story (and probably not worth stressing out your gf ;))

I had a blow out at 145mph last week. Pulled over, changed tyre, moved off. Thought nothing else of it.

He was on a bike though

Blow out on a car is a non issue (i had one at ~80mph in my S-Class Merc and i honestly didnt even notice bar some slight pulling one way on the wheel, i pulled over thinking something wasnt right to have a look, but didnt know what to expect at all until i saw the shreaded tyre on the rim).

I imagine it is rather different on a bike!

Had one many years ago on a Suzuki GP100 and it was a real pucker moment. After that the tyres were checked every day before a ride as it was caused by a bulge in the wall. It is the only blow out I have had on a bike and it is nothing compared to a car tyre blowing out.

Bloody terrifying having a blow out in a six axle articulated truck, I imagine its no fun on a bike!!

Check your tyres daily peeps!!

Is it really?

I always thought you'd barely notice them in trucks and they seem to have them all the time.

Have you heard how loud they go bang? I had a lorry burst a tyre as I overtook it the other week. The noise was loud enough that everyone slowed down as they thought something terrible was about to happen..

I had a rear go when I was doing 70mph. None event, bit of vibration but pulled over the lanes easily enough. I had an engine in the boot which meant I couldn't get my spare out...

Had a quick puncture on a 4x4 at work, noticed it went even more boat like on cornering as it deflated over a couple of km (massive sidewalls). Pulled over and changed it before it went properly.

Probably not technically a blowout (in the explosive sense). I had both right side tyres deflate immediately after hitting bits that used to be the rear hub of a Ford Transit in the outside lane of the M6. Front alloy split in two, rear alloy had a large dent in it and went down in a few seconds.

Somehow managed to get the car safely across three lanes to the hard shoulder without hitting anything.

It was a bit scary.

Bit different but I've come down a steep hill in just my lycra on the racing bicycle, hit a massive pothole and instantly flatted both front and rear tyres. I was doing circa 50 mph at the time.!!

Didn't come off, but was gently on the brakes and pooping it until I slowed enough that it "wouldn't hurt so much" if I did lose it.. :o

Other than that I've never had a flat tyre in 25 years of driving.

I have a front tyre deflate very quickly on my cbr600 when the rubber on the valve split.
I was just coming up to a bend doing 70ish, ran over a bad bumpy stretch of road which I think put extra pressure on the valve, if it had been a corner i'd have crashed as it was I only just got round the bend.
the bike didn't want to turn on a flat 120/60 front tyre.
after that I got myself a 90 degree adaptor to put air in my tyres without having to bend the valve to get the airline on, which is the reason im sure the valve weakened where in went in to the wheel.

can't remember any dramas regarding punctures and never had a blow out as such

the carcasses on motorbike tyres are rigid anyway, even flat you can ride on them

Was on the back of friends gsx250 going at just under 60mph and the rear tyre came Off the rim after that experience I could not remove the thought out of my mind for nearly six months, a puncher is fine just need to bring bike slowly to a halt but when a tyre comes off the rim it is like suddenly being on ice zero control.
