No the battle is won, how long before we see Blu Ray as the standard drive in a PC? Will Apple make the jump first?

But maybe a Blu Ray writer is along way off.

And let hope prices fall fast.

I dunno, you can get a writer for ~£150... I don't think it'll be long before it drops. It doesn't feel that long ago when DVD's were new and a writer was about £400. I remember seeing them on my mates Dads trade list and thinking "I wish I could have one of those - 4.5gb on a single disk! Woah!"

I give it 2 years maximum until they appear in almost every new PC...

How much on a single BD? Is it like a HDD size? I think it wont be much more than a year, when I get a job I'll get one so I can buy BD instead of DVD :D, its nice that BD won over HDDVD :D:D.

*pushes thread back on to rails*

A blu-ray disk can have 25GB of data on a ~£10 disk, but 50GB data on a ~£50 disk... basically, it's a complete rip-off. I can't see any reason to buy them, especially at those prices!

Oh Dear. War is about the break out!

The only apple I own is the one in the fruit bowl, I just want to know why Apple sucks.

I'll have 150gb worth of disks for £50 please :D, nah I'd rather get a 320GB HDD for that lol..

BD media is too expensive right now but just give it time. I remember paying £270 for my 2x CD writer back in 1997 or 1998, I forget which, and the discs were anything from £3 to £5 each. Now you can get a damn spindle of 50 discs for that.

I also remember paying £320 for my Pioneer 2x DVD writer back in 2003 I believe, maybe even 2002. I paid £80 for 100 2x discs (which were dodgy too - hardly any of them work today) whereas for £80, you can now get 250 discs.

BD writers are already pretty acceptably priced at £170 ish but give it a year or two and they'll be cheaper and more importantly, BD media will be reasonably priced too.

just go compare an apple mac with a pc from OCUK, with same price range..

then compare mac os with windows XP or vista, for starters apple mouse have no right click, as far as i know, that alone makes it stupid, dont even need to look at the other things

You're still a noob, so most will let that slide. Just try and be more contructive in the future yeah?
noob in what sense, posts or knowledge, and that was being constructive, ie warning people about mac, and giving a good guess at when blu ray will be standard

and regarding BD, i think the most important thing is the price of the disks, i mean spend 180 on a RW but then if you use 100 disks it will cost you 1000 pounds!!!!!!!, i wouldnt pay more then 150 for 100 blu-ray disks

That sounds almost exactly like what i paid!

nothing to stress about here, just buy one when they're <£30. Only seems like yesterday that DVD writer drives dropped to £199.

Having said that I still remember the HD £1 = 1MB being reached! .... that 170mb HD sure was a bargain.....

and as far as PC data storage goes, I don't see why 25gig is so exciting. When CD-R first started to surface you were lucky if you had a hardrive the capacity of a CD, so it was quite a big thing

BD discs will start to be made with a cheaper dye mixture (theres another post on here somewhere) which should bring their price down in the not too distant future!!!

i think pc games would be a while of if they do come as that is forcing everyone to buy a blu-ray rom for the pc,and lots of people will not do that

But because of the way PC games work, it's not too much of an issue - we can have multiple DVD's and just swap them around whilst installing, whereas on consoles it matters more, as having to swap disks mid-game doesn't seem like something developers want to do... So yeah I agree that Blu-Ray is a while off before it becomes required. I think at most they'll have a Blu-Ray version and a multiple DVD version, like Doom 3 and The Sims 2 did with CD's and DVD's.

That was one of the GTA4 developers gripes with the xbox 360 - fitting it onto a DVD. Imagine having to swap disks when you tried to drive to a certain part of the island!
