As per the title really, what blu rays would people recommend to really give jaw dropping moments in terms of detail on screen etc?

N.b. Pr0n is not an option :)

Without wanting to get into the "big debate" again, if the screen is 1080p then definitely - nothing shows off Full HD like Pixar animated stuff. If, OTOH, the panel is 720p then animated stuff probably isn't such a good idea as the sharp "edges" and colour transitions show up the reduced resolution more than the continuous tones in natural images do and the picture can look a bit "pixelly" as a result.

The Godfather Trilogy is something that appeals to me on BD - is the transfer quality good then?

I stick by Transformers as a demo disc, the transfer is stunning with the bitrate regularly reaching over 35Mbps.

I've already got Dark Knight ready for when my new telly arrives on wednesday, but others that I want that are apparently good;

2001: A space Odyssey
The Fall (when it is released on region2 in January)

Iron Man is also worth looking at.

The one thing I want more than any other on BD is The Lord of the Rings. Surely if any films were ever made for this format then it's these.

Unfortunately the latest rumours suggest that it'll be the end of 2009 before we see them on BD and then only the original cinema versions, the full extended editions probably being held back to coincide with the cinema release of The Hobbit in 2010 :(

Wall-E
Iron man
2001: A Space Odyssey
Black Snake Moan
Blade Runner
The Matrix
Patton
Transformers
The Dark Knight
Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid

dark knight really does upset lcd's, lol. its the best disc out there though, i dont think there's a film that betters it. you might be awfully suprised by a lot of the older stuff as well, like blade runner. you just wouldnt believe they could get such a result from a flim that old.

Well I just ran Planet Earth and The Matrix on blu ray on my TH42PX80. All I can say is that even on the reduced burn-in settings they are stunning.

I then put Lord Of The Rings on DVD into the PS3 and it was so blurred in comparison. Still a great picture but nowhere near as sharp.

+1 on that score.

Oh dear :(
