Convince me...

My mate picked this up a few nights ago and i played the first 30minutes or so with him, nice cool graphics - some comedy it seemed - the game seemed a bit random though :D

But the only RPG'ish games ive played are KoToR, Sudeki, and a few others - not really a fan of turn based combat.

Is there enough of a "gripping" story to bypass this? Im just not sure about the idea of loads and loads of battles you cant cancel and being turn based, at least with the above you can run away :)

I bought it the other day and to be honest I don't like it. I've found it incredibly easy up to the point of it being down right boring to play. Most monsters die in one hit. I'm about 10 hours into it (Just reached the dark forest place) and the story hasn't gripped me so far. I'm a huge RPG fan but I can't seem to get into this one, which is a waste as the graphics are lovely.

Story seems bad because of the terrible translation it went through, the voice acting has no emotion etc which is the main reason I will be playing through it with the Japanese voice acting. I'm not saying the story is great because I have no idea since I havent played it yet, but it doesn't help with the lazy translations and voice acting.

I hope more Japanese RPG's begin coming accross with both the english and japanese sound tracks so I dont have to listen to the terrible english dubs :)

I got this and just haven't gotten into it in the way I'd hoped I might.

It's nowhere near something like FF. Not even in the same book. However it tries to be like an older FF, and just seems to fail.

The characters are possibly the some of the most annoying and bland bunch I've seen in a game and like others have said, it's really easy.

For hardcore RPG fans who want to collect every possibly bonus through the game, there seems to be a load of stuff to grab and collect. Literally every rock or tree can be pushed, kicked and examined for loot. However, for me this has been grossly 'overdone' to the point that it is really detrimental to the game. Do I actually want to spend my time having to scour every bit of scenery in an area?

So many things about the game just seem to stink of FF, but have been implemented in a cack-handed 2nd-rate manner. It's like it has the flashy graphics, but there's nothing underneath. No soul, no story that I care about.

I'll probably continue with it and see it through at some point but it's not on the top of my list, you'll just have to try it for yourself.

Don't expect a FF7 and its a really good game. The game mechanics are sound and its fun, the kind of fun that lasts 30+ hours!

I'd only be weary if you don't like the format (i.e turn based battles) as the story doesn't carry the game unlike other RPG's.

I've really enjoyed the game so far.

It seems like an older RPG that you may have found on the Dreamcast for example, but with uprated graphics and audio. Poor voice acting aside, the audio is superb, though such pieces as the boss music are certainly an acquired taste.

I quite like the story and the characters are typical of this kind of Jap RPG.

I like the way that you don't have random battles, and can choose which fights you want to get into.

Basically have a go on the demo. It gives you a good idea of the game mechanics and should help you decide whether you want to spend 30-odd hours of your time playing it.

It gets a definate thumbs up from me, though. :)

I'd agree with that :)

I've loved it so far - to me it feels like a blend of FFX (turn-based combat), FFXII (monsters roaming on world map) and Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64. (for sheer Japanese-y randomness)

Which makes it ace in my book - I loved the humour and just complete randomness of Goemon on the N64. To put that into an RPG was just genius :p

I'm only an hour in but you finished Phantasy Star Universe (as did I) and boy is it a lot better than that.

The battles aren't random ala Enchanted Arms so you can choose to run round and avoid them if you're not in the mood.

So far I'm really enjoying it. It's pretty relaxing with beautiful cut scenes and I'd certainly recommend it.

I like the game, but as has been said previously, it's a little too easy... which removes any kind of tension. I would still recommend it though!
I am hoping that Lost Odyssey will be better.

That Shu has a bit of a potty mouth on him don't he?

He's got up to around 5 expletives so far.

He has and it's completely out of character with the rest of the game to be honest. I daresay this is the typical crap American dub that has added the swear words. There are anime films/series where the original Japanese contained no swearing and he Americans have decided to add them.

My daughter loves it, but she is 12, nuff said.

I'm not sure you meant it so, but that comment looks so disrepectful to your daughter. Two of my three daughters are enjoying the game too, but that doesn't make it a bad game.

As for the others' comments about the game being easy, I agree. I can't understand why the demo offered two difficulty settings but the full game doesn't. I find there is no need to go out of your way to level-up in this game which seems a little strange. I suspect most have purposely levelled-up at some point and are now walking through it with little challenge.

Not really my genre, but I put the demo on to give it a go and deleted it within about 10 secs of playing the game. Really not my cup of tea at all :p

I didnt mean it like that, I meant that she thinks its fantastic, and she is twelve, so perhaps its more tailored to that age group. I havent played it, but I quite enjoy watching her play it, what I meant is that McDaniel likes things that 12 year old girls like usually, so he probably would like it :D

I really cant get into this but i normally like the odd rpg, spent about 4 or 5 hours so far and the story has done nothing for me. Might just trade it for a credit note at work and wait for eternal sonata...
