What used to be a UK
I don't get it unless I have read it all wrong? I picked up a blueray disk of Close Encounters and I am sure it has three different versions of the movie on the disk. What is the point?

Theatrical original, special edition, and the director's cut. It's hardly a con, unless the box says "three movies on one disc!" I imagine they just put the extra's on for the sake of it.

I suppose what I really ment was I didn't see the point and thought that what it really amounted to was a waste of space lol

They only put one copy of the full movie on the disk, the player is just told to skip certain bits if you select the cut version. Hardly a waste of space, they probably only cut ~15 minutes of useable stuff anyway.

some people also prefer seeing different versions (the one they actually saw, or the one the Dir actually wanted to show)

The movie company in question wants to cater for everyone - and its cheaper for them to do it this way producing one disc which keeps everyone happy, and makes no significant diff to anyone

(there is enough space on br's for them to do this and not cut any material as with such an old film any extras will probably be in SD anyway)

Old but has to be said...

lolwut?

Sorry for the late reply. It's a con insofar as the movie wasn't filmed in a blueray format to begin with and is only upscaled. Admittedly the technology wasn't available at the time.

I think you will find its been downscaled to blu ray res from 35mm
