Hey guys, I just had this blue screen error again with my newly brand new replaced 6870(my old 6870 died on artifacts sent on RMA about a month ago).

I have just watched a flash video and out of nowhere it goes green and I get the blue screen and it reboots itself. The same thing happened too numerous times with the older card. it only happens at times when playing a flash video.

Can any1 help me out to pinpoint the problem, I don't think its the new GPU since its fully working. Would it be the RAM that could be messing up?

any ideas guys?

Thanks, I just installed the whocrashed software and this is what I got:

I've had similar issues to this, and I can give you some that might be the cause.

1) You are using Google chrome and have flash installed separately. Disable Chrome's in built flash plugin

2) Your motherboard does not play nice with DDR-1600 RAM, which may be the cause. Drop it back to 1333 and see if it makes a difference. Even my Gigabyte board is funny if they RAM is at 1600, crashes after waking from sleep mode sometimes so I put mine back down as well.

If this doesn't fix it, try turning off hardware acceleration in the flash player.

hmmm well I am using IE9, my flash is Abobe 11 ver.11.2.202.235,
can it be the driver then?
or still RAM/RAM slot

myt try turning off hardware accelration too.

If you tried updating the driver and it doesn't fix it, then you probably should underclock your RAM. Whilst it says that the motherboard supports it, in practice you have to increase CPU-NB volts to compensate (by around 10% in fact) and that in turn increases the heat generated by the processor so you have to put CPU volts up to maintain overclock stability and so on...

Also, we don't even know when this issue started. Is your CPU overclocked? What about your previous GPU? The CPU core stepping as well matters because your motherboard only supports 95W CPUs, if it's a C2 955BE (125W) it might not play nice with your motherboard.

But this probably isn't a problem with your components physically but with how they are configured. Try and do what I asked and set your RAM to 1333.

Thanks I'll try updating the drivers, my CPU is at stock 3.2ghz, its deffo the 125W version. previous GPU isnt overclocked and its also the flash video problem that froze and BSOD numerous times that killed it I believe(which is why I don't want the same happening to my newly replaced GPU(.

The flash thing crashing won't hurt your GPU, I still think it might be your RAM though, can you give me some info about the make/model of your RAM, the current voltage it is set to, the timings and your CPU-NB over volt (if any)? I had my RAM at 1600, it would crash due to flash videos, set to 1333, it no longer crashes. Identical processor on a 770 chipset.

Please do this if the driver update does not fix the issues. The reason is that the GPUs use system RAM to augment VRAM and if your memory is set to marginally stable settings certain applications can cause crashes if they require GPU acceleration.

Does it seem to be OK now? If not....

Can I ask which 6870 you're using please?

Reason being, I sold a Powercolor HD6870 about 9 months ago to a guy from another forum, after months of him trying to stop it BSOD he finally admitted defeat and we had to RMA it. Was confirmed to me by their tech support that it was a common fault with their brand of 6870, issue sounds very similar to yours.

My old card was the VTX3D(which I think is also Powercolor) 6870 which died after 6 months because of the BSOD issues above that happened many times.

I had a new XFX 6870 as replacement- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-205-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866

its happened once with the same issue, and Im still currently testing it with watching flash videos.

cheers

Since rolling back to the february update, I played flash videos for over an hour. Haven't BSOD at all. so everything is looking good. thx guys

I'll post again if it does occur.

Well today I was playin FIFA 12 and it blue screened on it first time.

This was what I got:

What shud I do now? seems like different issue now

I have had the same issue with my HIS 6870 - when hardware acceleration is enabled on flash I get instant crashes - have had it for some time.

I assumed it was a flash - radeon driver bug/compatibility issue. My card is stable in all games and benchmarks, my system is stable in prime95 etc.

What's annoying is that flash defaults to hardware acceleration; but if you go to this link
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
right click on your flash version - then you can disable hardware accel.

edit: ok, just read your last posts - sorry - maybe you have a different/additional issue,!

Yeh deffo think its a different issue now, when I use flash videos it never seem to BSOD now. but its move onto the games for some reason.

any good solutions?? it say is it driver bug related :)

Just played a different flash video and it BSODing again :(

Try giving the card couple more voltage with Msi Afterburner. Go up very lightly 0.06 I used on my card when the display driver was crashing fixed my issue.
