Hi Guys I am having real issues with my PC crashing a lot it can last 2seconds to 30 minutes but always blue screens

spec
I7 3770k no OC
16GB Samsung green running at 1600MHz (presently only 4GB checking mem)
Gigabyte Z77x-d3h
Samsung ssd 120gb

Run windows debugging and it comes up with the below basically want someone that knows what they are talking about to tell me is this really the cpu foobard or driver problem

BugCheck 124, {0, fffffa80052a1028, be200000, 11136}

Can you tell me more about the PC, what PSU is it? Are you using a GFX card? what BIOS version are you using?

Have you tried a fresh install of windows just in case its not some stupid software related/driver elated bug.

I have re installed windows twice though had more attempts as even blue screened towards end of windows install

So you have set the BIOS back to default/stock settings and it is still bluescreening randomly?

Ok, try a fresh reinstall of the OS if you can, this will help remove years of garbage and give you something fresh to start from. If it continues then you know you have a hardware fault.

sorry edited 1st post
have fresh installed twice and had a couple of failed attempts as blue screened towards end of install (very close to end) ie keyboard country selection timezone

Sparkles over the screen,, hmmm that is usually memory failure when using a GFX card, as the IGP uses system RAM I guess it could be related.

Refit the GFX card and disable the IGP in the BIOS.

Try a single RAM stick at a time.

presently on the second stick stable for 30+mins now 1st stick lasted about 5 minutes did not even need to stress it
would you suggest any program to stress the sticks in windows

The program that is normally used to test RAM specifically is called MEMtest.

Ive never used it myself, I dont know if its a window based or DOS based utility.

There will be Youtube videos showing you how to use it.

It sounds a lot like an issue my mate had with a second hand i7 he bought (ex review model). It had a faulty core and would just blue screen at random - even running cpu heavy apps didn't affect when it would die. In the end he bought a cheap i5 for about £50 and that solved the problem.

If you can get your hand on another cpu, I strongly advice you try that.

124 error means more vcore and or more cpu/vtt (esp if running 16gb)

maybe try 1.10-1.15v vtt voltage

for Samsung green ram you'll need latest bios to run above 1866mhz

id also set dram voltage to 1.55v

I'd second what wazza said my first instinct with that BSOD would have been to add another notch or 2 to VTT but if its been stable for awhile then that would be a bit strange unless the CPU is prematurely degrading which seems unlikely.

Trying individual ram sticks if that's all ok
Will then try individual memory slots with a good stick if that's all ok will stick all 4 sticks back in and change voltage

Could someone advise
Imc voltage ?
Vtt ?
CPU auto ok
Ram voltage 1.55v ok I presume
Anything else
Might add this PC was stable for 18 months with a 4.5ghz on the CPU at 1.275v and men at 1866mhz at 1.55v and no other adjustments

what clocks you running? if at stock auto cpu v is fine

if at 4.5ghz id try normal cpu voltage the medium loadline calibration and +0.015v dvid voltage

set pwm phase control to extreme performance and vcore voltage response to fast

set the cpu bclk to 100

and try with 1.10v cpu/vtt

you can also run memtest86 just to see if any ram errors crop up

OP,

I had an i7 3770k on a GA-Z77X-UP4 TH. From the very start I had 124 blue screen errors at random times, this was with everything totally stock.

To fix I had to increase voltage (even at stock) - auto cpu v was definitely not fine on mine! To make things worse it would corrupt my page file, and had to set the page file to clear on system shut down.

I eventually got the chip stable, and it's currently running as a server, however I think my chip has an issue and should have been returned. It was an OEM and after this chip I only buy retail.

Hi Wazza

Presently just trying to get stable at stocks, just running memtest 86 on the 3 rd stick in slot1
Once I have tested the 4th stick will then retest 1 stick in each 2 3 4 with memtest then if all OK will place all four sticks in the slots (16gb) and run at 1600mhz and CPU at stock so really looking for non auto settings that should get me stable
