Hi all,

My Windows install has been bluescreening every so often over the last few weeks - a mix of errors, mainly the IRQ LESS OR NOT EQUAL error. Quite often when it does this the BIOS reports "overclocking failed" and resets all the BIOS settings. Often the Windows install is trashed too (won't boot in any mode).

I've been running Memtest86+ - with both sticks in, it's fine for 24 hours/40 passes, then it starts throwing the odd error.

With each stick in on their own, after roughly a day and 80 - 90 passes it's fine.

I'm assuming this means it could be a motherboard problem?

2 x 2Gb Dominator PC2 8500 C5
Asus P5Q-E (latest BIOS flash)

All parts are from OcUK.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers!
S.

I am far from an expert but in my experience when a system seems otherwise stable but blue screens at random intervals (e.g. sometimes full load, sometimes idle, sometimes starught after boot, sometimes after many hours) it is usually the motherboard.

That's what's bothering me. I really can't be arsed stripping the PC down and RMAing the motherboard. I'm almost tempted to pick up more RAM in the hope that it's simply an incompatibility between the motherboard and the RAM.

last time i got that error it was because my CPU was overheating, pulled heatsink off and it was partially melted and it was coming apart with my heatsink.

Definitely not that in my case - CPU is only running at 32-35 degrees. The RAM heatsink is cool to touch also.
