Just aheads up in case anyone else runs into this problem.
I just bought this drive:

and installed it on my Asus x570-P:

As soon as I put it in either slot, the PC would lock after displaying the Asus logo but without being able to get into the BIOS. What's more it took a few cycles of turning the machine off/ resetting to get it back to normal once the drive had been removed.

Finally fixed it by updating my bios: I was on 1404 & up-dated to 3001, I think.
Searching for the issue, this seems very common with these WD blue NVMe drives - especially for Asus motherboards & laptops. I think it's something about the new technology in them that needed a bios update.

Hope this helps anyone who has the issue.

Had a driver issue with this specific drive too around November last year.

They are also not compatible with Windows 7, found that out the hard way when I was trying to build a PC with a old Win7 key I had for years ago.
Thankfully you can just put Win7 keys into Win10 most of the time.

Think that was a driver issue too, this NVME drive has something about it which does often cause driver issues in older systems.
