Blueyonder/telewest speed problem

Hi there,

For the last few months i have been enjoying a fast 4mb/s line from by. The surfing was fast and i could regularly download at my max of 480kb/s. Recently however due to an unpaid bill :eek: they cut us off. Rang them up and paid and were duely reconnected. New ip and all. Now however, i can't achieve my max downloads at all. I keep fluctuating around the 20kb/s-200kb/s mark and surfing is really slow.

Do u reckon they downgraded us? i thought of this and did a speed test thing at adslguide and it reported back that my line could download at 0.5mb/s which sounds about right for a 4mb/s line. Why then the sudden drop in quality. Any suggestions. I dont think its an error my end because i havent changed anything.

Guess i will ring them up if this continues.

Exactly the same problem as us (except we didn't get disconnected!) 4Mb line (connected to 802.11g router), I used to get download speeds of 400-500Kbps but now it sometimes goes to 40-70Kbps. When we had TVDrive installed apparently the guy turned the internet signal down from 16 to 10? (All my sister could say). What area do you live in? If you live close to us then it may be a problem with Telewest locally. I'm in Uxbridge.
 
ah i am in Archway (North London N19). Its weird, if i reboot the modem then my download speeds go back to normal but then after about 30 mins the quality degrades and i am back to slowville.

i have run some diagnostic programs and they all say that this line is pinging slower than it should and downloading slower as well :(.

can anyone shed any light on this?
 
When you were reconnected, you may be on a different channel to your local node than before, which could be running more users.

I would give tech support a call and ask them to check it out.
 
just a little update, rang up and explaing the problem and the guy moved me to a different ubr or channel or node or something. still the same rubbish downloads but he also said there were slow speed issues in *** area and that engineers were workingon it. anyway problem solved as i now get my max 480kb/s :). guess the problem was on their end. :D
