It depends what units you use - this is the result of "Dan Elwell's Broadband speed test"

bytes or bits ! (x 8 diff?)

No mate, it's actually wrong.

Take for instance dialup internet.

You never called it 56kb/s

You called it 56k and you could download at about 8kb/s.

Anybody want to hazard a guess when Glenrothes will be upgraded, the rollout is to be completed by the end of Oct and service disruption will be between 27th Sept - 17th Oct

Maidstone speeds are still scummy and I'm getting random drops so playing Guildwars is out of the question, hope they get this sorted out soon :(

Code:
46384 Ubr upgrade in Glenrothes Upcoming Broadband Oct 12, 2005 10:00 AM

Sometime after the 12th of October if you've already had network upgrades. I'm still waiting on my upgrade even though my UBR was to be upgraded on the 6th of October and the network upgrades were completed a month a ago :(

Just phoned them up to weasel some info out of them, and to find out why my connection keeps dropping and giving me slow speeds every since they started this work.

He wouldn't take no as answer, he just kept insisting that i had a virus and/or spyware.

Made me do a Netstat -s and tell him how many active opens there were which at the moment is 4224. He said that isn't normal and i MUST have spyware (i know for a fact that i haven't)

I am right or am i talking tosh? lol

I had same problem with their tech support ages back. He kept saying my downloads were slow as I had spyware/virus. I pointed out that I had installed windows the day before and no spyware on it. He kept telling me that was what the problem was.

Turned out it wasn't that though suprise suprise. I can't remember the exact terms but there was too many people in my area using the same connection. He somehow got me switched to a different one and my speeds shot up.

I said that i just scanned for viruses and spyware (well last night) and he said it may be where i restarted my computer and system restore was restoring them all back again.

I couldn't be bothered to complain with him and say that i hadn't restarted and that i have system restore disabled.

I think you really should tell them that you know how to use a computer before you ring up, as he was like "go to the start menu, the big button down the bottom left"

Without him i'd be lost on computers ;)

I live in Wakefield and I keep losing connection too, it went 4 times last night over about an hour. I was playing WoW at the time, in the end I got fed up with it and logged off as it wasn't really playable.

I had a period of time where my connection went down, about a weekend.

But this was just them upgrading my line. When it came back on I was getting 3,000kb d/ls of fileplanet!!!

My jaw hit the floor :P
