Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

Speeds here are all over the place at the moment, this maybe because I have about 8 things running at the moment or it might be network based :s

Just did this :)

:D

Surely i should be able to get close to 10meg at 2am from the blueyonder newsgroups. If i cant get it then, then i will never get it. It seems to burst up to 700 then settle down to 400 as if im on 4meg. I cant complain as its a free upgrade, it would be nice however if the speeds where constant and not up and down like a fiddlers elbow

Definately the case, one copy just finished and the speeds are now consistantly at 700KB, waiting for the other one to be done now. Seems that the data is coming faster then the HD can handle whilst doing other things.

I was on a 2mb connection so when blueyonder upgrade I should have the 10mb service just checked I am on 4mb? 6mb, and 8mb jumping all over the place.

Downstream 8308 Kbps (1,038.5 KB/sec) 8972 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 351 Kbps (43.9 KB/sec) 379 Kbps (inc. overheads

It seems from looking at everyones feedback that the new speeds are different to before. Before you where on 2meg and thats what you usually saw maxed out most of the time. Now it seems they have just opened up the speed gates but what you actually get is utter randomness in speeds, its just all over the place. I have tried about 5 speed test sites and none come back faster than 440k/sec which is 4meg

Are there any settings which I should change for 10Mb? I remember that there are ways to optimise you net connection, TTL window or something

Your RWIN might help a bit.
DrTCP will change it, but I can't say I've got many clues to what to change it to. Something involving a multiple of your MTU (1500 by default), IIRC.

when is north london getting the upgrades :(

south and east london got it at the end of september

Well after a reboot I am now seeing a consistant 1000KB/s (950-1150KB/s) in Grabit with 100proofnews so I'm a happy bunny :)

Hmm, the speed increase has just come through on chelmsford (no mention of it on the maintenance page). The modem downloaded the updated config file late last night. At the moment the speed is a little random, most I have had is 480kb/sec. The speed seems to be anything from 300k ->480k. Much better than a 1mb connection though so i'm not complaining :)

You know what assume does don't you?

Makes and Ass out of U and Me ;)

A UBr upgrade is not the be all and end all, it was 10 days after my network and UBr upgrades that we got the boost, so calm down :)
