You're probably right. I had two, one was a pistol for one Nintendo console and the other was a bazooka for another Nintendo console.

though tbf, as awesome as the super scope was there were very few games that used it, and the ones that did were poor
I wouldn't classify the Guitars, Rock Band and stuff addons. They are really accessories because you can play Guitar Hero without the guitar (dont know why you would, but you can do it).
The HD-DVD is an addon because it is needed to do what its meant to do. So i would agree that buying an addon for a games console is silly and kinda defeats the purpose of what it was built for. Just my opinion here.

but the 360 wasnt design to play HD-DVD's, it's just an optional extra for those that do want it. where as the sony made BD playback one of the PS3's main features from the start

i see what you mean but I dont see how its defeating the purpose of the console by having the drive offered as an optional extra only??
it doesnt change the way the console works for the millions of people that didnt buy the drive, and adds an extra bit of functionality to those that did

like i said above - im not interested in 360bluray as i have a ps3
i think peripherals are good as optional extras for those that want them
my ps3 gets use as a console but recently i have been getting use out of the blu ray function and am looking into the freeview recorder addon
i think addons to improve the functions of older consoles like the sega cd etc were a bad idea as the consoles were not capable of upgrading themselves and their functionallity like they are today
times are changing - consoles are becoming more like media hubs so why shouldnt the manfacturers put out addons to make their machines fulfil alternative purposes?

Lets not forget that Sony dont actually own Blu-Ray
And let's not forget that MS actually get royalties from sales of BR movie titles, since they made the video codec used in those titles.
