Good morning.

Bought a new setup yesterday and when we play blurays we have massive sound sync issues. All we've done so far is set up the tv / surround sound unit via hdmi (out on the ss to the arc port on tv) the products are;

Samsung UE46E6670 smart TV
Samsung HT-F5550 5.1 sound system.

My dad seems to think its coz' im using a old hdmi and i need one of these 'new fast' ones, but there is hardly any difference between cables other than price is there?

Thanks

Si

I'd be very surprised if the cable is the cause. AFAIK even the very oldest cables have all pins connected and would support basic audio. The speed of the cable refers to how much data it can carry rather than how fast the audio goes through. Put it this way, if the cable slowed your audio that much then you'd have much bigger problems with the picture to worry about. :D

Besides, you say that the sound is a problem when playing Blu-rays. That should rule out the HDMI straight away. The ss doesn't need to send sound to the TV and back to work. When playing Blu-rays and DVDs then the sound should just go straight to the speakers.

What's the delay like when listening to the Freeview tuner in the TV via the surround system. Also, have you made sure to turn the TV speakers down when listening via the surround system.

If it makes him happy then change the cable. All high-speed HDMI cables aren't the same, no. But that's mostly down to construction quality. On a short run the differences are rarely worth worrying about. Nip down to the local supermarket and spend £3-£4.

Your sound issues are probably to do with some set up issue in the surround system or TV. Go through the manuals for the ss first. Have a look at the Audio Delay feature.

Yeah i found a Audio Delay setting, had to set them both to 150ms and it seems to have sorted both the TV & Blu-rays out.

Thanks!
