Blurring/ghosting on DVD playback

I recently got a new monitor and seem to have this problem. I'm quite sure it's motion blurring rather than ghosting. The problem is that sometimes I get a faint outline of where other characters have 'been' in a DVD a few seconds beforehand. It's only noticeable in scenes which are very dark colourwise, the rest of the time it isn't.

The monitor has a response time of 5ms but the refresh rate seems to be locked at 60hz. I can force the refresh rate through the ATI CCC but not sure if it's a good idea. Could it be a cabling issue? I am using a DVI cable at the moment though haven't tried it with the VGA.

I have this on mine as well and have found the only way to get rid of it is to disable hardware acceleration. ATI x1950pro here.

EDIT: Curiously enough, if I'm using my Blu-Ray drive instead of my standard DVD drive then the ghosting is greatly reduced. Don' know why this is but it definitely is better on the Blu-Ray drive.
 
Won't be the cable, if there was a problem with it you'd be getting drop-outs rather than artifacts as it's completely digital from end to end.

What you are seeing could be the acceleration on your card plus the "overdrive" circuity in the monitor itself.

OK, I take it there isn't anything I can do about the 'overdrive', it's just part of the monitor. I'm hoping cancelling the acceleration may help. Looks like it will since Antar had the same thing with that card.
 
I'm getting this exact same problem (I think...) on my LCD TV. I happens with dark / rich colours, mostly red and black that I can see. I get this problem overall though when using my computer on the LCD TV - such as on the desktop, browsing the internet and so forth. I made a thread about my problems here which includes a video I made that I shoved on YouTube to show the problem more. Here's the video if you wanted to compare, see if it's the same problem. Just if it is and I can find a fix I'll keep you informed as it might have help, assuming it's the same problem:

I had something like that but sorted it out very quickly just by changing the display preset mode on the monitor.

If the hardware acceleration cancelling doesn't work I'll upload a video too.

It depends on what program you're using for DVD playback. If it's Media Center then there's no easy way to do it as the only solution I found was to disable all hardware acceleration via the display properties panel and troubleshooting. If it's something like Power DVD then just disable Hardware Acceleration under Video in the settings tab of that program.
